I'll never be able to write a proper Japan report, I did too many things, saw too many places. I had a travel journal in which I wrote every day (well, every night), but writing even half of those things here would be too much.

So, just a few highlights:
Behind a cut because it's gonna be LONG )

I could go on and on and on, but I'd better stop here. It was one of the best trips of my life, probably THE best trip of my life. And, to be honest, I thought I would spend much more! Some things were indeed very expensive, but most of the things I was interested in were average-priced, so it wasn't too bad. But then again, I live in one of the most expensive cities in Italy, so I may be a little biased.

Anyway, it was an amazing trip and I already want to go back!

Most of my Japan trip is taken care of. Flights and hotels are booked, yen picked up from the bank, I have a rough schedule of the places I'm going to visit and I found an office where I can buy the Japan Rail Pass (it's quite close to my office, actually, I'll go during lunch break in the next days).

I'm finally realising this is really happening and I'm so f***ing excited!

I would also like to finish the Good Omens WIP I started a few weeks ago, or draw some fanart (I saw a photo and was immediately inspired), but I have no time. I also MUST work on the usual biannual proofreading thing I do for my former neighbour, and that's the priority, but not tonight. I really can't focus, my brain is just screaming "JAPAAAN!" over and over and over. XD

So, Mark Gatiss went to Japan and wrote an article about his trip. As if I needed yet another reason to love him. Sigh.

The picture taken at the Fushimi shrine is now my desktop wallpaper. And I squealed when I saw the photo of him standing in front of the Golden Pavilion temple: last December [livejournal.com profile] schwimmerin sent me a postcard from Kyoto with the same temple on it! >_<

Also, I finally caved in and got myself a Mark icon. I could've used my Japan icon for this entry, but I'm in hopeless fangirl mode right now.

I went to Little Tokyo for the opening ceremony of the Tanabata Festival today and before going to dinner I stopped in one of the shops to buy a little something for a friend. And then I went into full otaku mode when I saw this:

This will maybe make no sense at all for most of my flist, but I've been looking for a kendama for years, ever since I saw one at a comic fair (I was still in school, so it was a long time ago). I didn't buy it then and I've regretted ever since. But now I have one! Yatta! \o/

Of course it all goes back to the cartoon Yattaman, which was very popular in Italy in the '80s. These were the opening credits:

I'm such an otaku...

Yum!

Oh, man. In a city as big as Los Angeles, what are the odds of meeting the same 3 Italian students I met on the bus coming back from Venice Beach on the 4th of July? Well, I met them again today, on a different bus in a different part of town (West Hollywood). And, once again, they were the loudest people in the whole bus. Sigh. And I guess I might meet them again, they're staying at the UCLA campus. They were so loud I heard every single word they said and found out they're from Milan too. I wonder if I'm that loud too when I'm with my friends. I probably am. /o\

Anyway, I went to Little Tokyo today and ate sushi in one of those places that have a revolving belt carrying little dishes and you choose the ones you want. I've always wanted to eat in a place like that! *_* And it wasn't expensive at all, with $20 I ate, drank and left a tip. Not bad. Even if I was confused at first, because instead of "revolving belt" I had read "revolting belt" and thought "WTF?" XD

Tanabata!

I'm such an otaku. I was leafing through my California guidebook and found the page about Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. I found out that every summer the Japanese community organises Nisei Week and on the Nisei Week website I saw they organise events for Tanabata too!

I've seen Tanabata mentioned in so many manga and anime, attending an actual Tanabata festival is like a dream come true! Like eating okonomiyaki for the first time (if you were a fan of Ai Shite Knight in the'80s, you know what I'm talking about). I still want to visit Japan at least once in my life, but in the meantime this is the next best thing.

I'm going to be spammy today, sorry in advance. But I couldn't NOT share these two videos with you. ROD IN JAPAN!!! And he makes okonomiyaki in the second one! >_< *dies*

A friend of mine, who has a blog about Chinese contemporary art, recently wrote an entry about "Orient-oriented" music videos in her personal blog. She listed Farin's "Sonne" too (hehe, I'm promoting him in Italy) and since it had been a while since I had last watched the video, I had a look at it.

Well, I have to say I had forgotten how hot Farin looks in that video. Maybe it's because I love Japan, maybe it's because I usually prefer dark-haired blokes, but damn.

She also posted a link to "Cieli neri" by Bluvertigo, a video I love with all my heart. Oh God, I was 18 when the song came out!

All this talking about Japan reminds me that tomorrow I'll have my last Japanese lesson, for the time being anyway. And it will be the last time I'll see a certain goth guy. Oh, well.

Also, just because I straightened my fringe today (it looked hideous this morning) everyone is making allusive comments. What? I simply straightened my fringe, there's no hidden, super-secret, boys-related reason behind it. Sheesh.
