gothikmaus: (Simon Gallup is my hero)

Challenge #9

In your own space, promote at least one canon that you adore (old, new, forever fandom). Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I may not be active in the Harry Potter fandom any more, but I still like that universe and I love the idea that Snape and Lily were friends as kids and that, later on, he was secretely in love with her but never acted upon it. Snape's whole life was really tragic: Lily was his only real friend and his only love and he pushed her away because of his pride; later he had to witness her falling in love with one of the people he despised the most; he couldn't save her from Voldemort and had to spend years protecting her son, who pretty much hated him, all the while being perfectly aware he was just a paw in Dumbledore's hands. JK Rowling was really cruel to him, but all that backstory explains so much of Snape's personality and choices in the books.

And of course the "After all this time?" "Always" bit never fails to break my heart. T_T

Challenge #10

In your own space, talk About A Creator/Someone Who Inspired You. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

A lot of people inspired me through the years, but I would say Robert Smith and Simon Gallup from The Cure are two of the public figures who shaped my personality the most. The Cure were a huge influence in my early '20s and their songs are a fundamental part of who I am today. Robert Smith is of course the heart of the band, while Simon Gallup was the reason I started playing bass and influenced my style. And they were my first OTP, the one that inspired me to write fanfiction and draw fanart, so they will always have a special place in my heart. ♥

Day 3

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Last year I wrote about Sherlock, which is still my main fandom at the moment, but this year I want to go back to one of my other fandoms: Harry Potter. One of my favourite moments of the whole saga is probably "The Prince's Tale" from "Deathly Hallows", because it shows the main events that made Snape the person he was. It's quite tragic that, throughout his life, Snape was humiliated, manipulated, treated as the villain, whereas in reality it was the opposite. I'm perfectly aware he's not a likeable character: he can be unfair and petty, he's selfish, he holds grudges, but that chapter shows why he became like that. Sure, he could've made different choices and become a different person, but considering his past, even Harry understands that Snape was much more than everyone thought he was. We also discover why Petunia became such a petty, unpleasant person and see that Dumbledore was manipulative and capable of terrible things, even if they were done for the "greater good".

And let's not forget the bit that makes me cry every time I read it:

"After all this time?"
"Always."

It's November! Which means I need to start thinking of Christmas cards. I already have ideas for the people I usually send cards to, but let me know if you have any specific request.

Also, I'll post an Inktober recap. I only managed 9 drawings, but I'm not too disappointed, given that I hadn't really drawn anything in ages. And I'm ridiculously proud of the last one.

Inktober 2018 recap )
gothikmaus: (*pout*)
I'm not really surprised to announce that my first Inktober was pretty much a failure, as I only drew 3 pictures. It's better than nothing, but still. On my defence, I can say that my free time this month has been spent either sick (2 weekends in a row, definitely not funny), proofreading (I'm helping out a neighbour on a project of his) or trying to find a damn flat. I even found what had the potential to be my dream home, but it was on the third floor without lift. And I mean European third floor, not American: ground floor, first floor, second floor, third floor. The flat was great and the price reasonable, but the thought of walking up those stairs after a long day at work, maybe after a stop at the supermarket, carrying heavy bags... Not so much. Oh, well. It's frustrating, but I'm not giving up.

Anyway, here are my three Inktober drawings:

Aww yiss, I love days off in the middle of the week.

I wanted to write this yesterday, but I received a last-minute invite to dinner + '80s night, so I didn't have time: the other night I dreamt Die Ärzte were playing in my hometown. The venue was tiny, I was standing in the front row and it was GLORIOUS. I think my subconsciuos is trying to tell me something. XD

And while we're talking about fandoms, I realised the following about 2016:

- new Sherlock
- new Star Trek
- new Harry Potter (sort of)
- Cure concert

Plus:
- a potential trip to Berlin (not confirmed yet)
- a potential trip overseas (business+pleasure, not confirmed yet)

I'm gonna die! XD

Christmas cards sent! I had to send my special errand boy (aka my dad) to the post office because I could barely stand this morning, but I'm feeling better now. The power nap I took in the afternoon definitely helped.

I also decided to be productive and doodled something:

I hadn't drawn anything Harry-Potter-related in years, and I mean literally years, and since I've been in a Hermione mood lately, the choice was predictable.

I should also work on the Mystrade fic I started, but I don't know if I can actually write the dirty bits. I'm getting old. XD
gothikmaus: (Xmas)
The Christmas cards are done! \o/ I should be able to send them out the day after tomorrow if the sore throat I have today doesn't turn into a nasty cold, so keep your fingers crossed.

Now that I have time, I was thinking of doing a sort of Advent Calendar, posting a drawing or drabble each day until Christmas, but I've already skipped two days. Oh, well. Does anyone have any request?

I went to the annual arts and crafts fair on Saturday and, well, this happened:

I'm worse than a 5-year-old. XD I had talked about the Time-Turner with a colleague just a few weeks ago and when I saw a stand selling Harry Potter themed merchandise I couldn't resist. Then, about 20 minutes later, I saw another stand that sold fantasy gadgets (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter etc.) and they had magic wands! Harry's, Hermione's, Dumbledore's and Voldemort's. And because I had just bought a Time-Turner, I thought "Well, who knows, I may want to dress up as Hermione for Halloween or Carnival or something, I have the perfect hair for that..." So, yeah, I ended up buying her wand. My inner fangirl is extremely pleased. XD

I forgot to mention one the funniest experiences I've had lately. Funny as in awkward and weird. I was walking back to the car with a friend the other night after having dinner at a Japanese restaurant (mmh, sashimi...) when we passed by a car that was parked on the pavement (that's quite common in Milan, people park everywhere). Out of the corner of my eye I saw a man sitting in the driver seat... and a girl giving him a blowjob! What the fuck, guys! Find somewhere a bit more private, won't you? We were just behind one of the most popular shopping streets (Corso Buenos Aires, for those who know Milan) and it wasn't that late. It reminded me of a friend who told me they saw 3 people having sex in the backseat of a car once. Well, that certainly requires flexibility...

Anyway, I finally drew the LJ interest doodle for [livejournal.com profile] dementordelta. Sorry for the delay!

That was the second and last request I got, if anyone else want a doodle just leave a comment and let me know. :)

My Harry Potter muse is back. Just for a quick drawing and a short ficlet, but it's still better than nothing, isn't it?

THIS FICLET CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR DEATHLY HALLOWS, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK

'Fool' )

The drawing isn't really spoilery, I've also used it for my new icon. Just consider it one of the many ships that are sailing out there.

I finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows last night. My reaction at the end of chapter 32:

SPOILERS GALORE )
gothikmaus: (OMGWTF!)
I bought Deathly Hallows yesterday afternoon, but I'm a very slow reader and I've only read up to page 195. Plus I'm going to a friend's place today and will spend the afternoon bumming around in his swimming pool and trying not to get a sunburn, so I won't finish reading until tomorrow.

But here are my first reactions:

DH spoilers up to page 195 )

So yeah, my reaction to the book so far can be summed up with a lot of WTF? moments. ^_^ Hopefully I can read a couple more chapters before going out.
gothikmaus: (Jigen)
Free at last. I had the Sociology exam on Wednesday and now I'm finally on holiday. I'll have the last exam (Marketing) in September but I'm not going to think about that now. Also, I got a 26/30 in the Economy exam. I was a bit worried about it because I thought I'd totally messed up one of the questions; well, it turned out I did quite well in that question, but not so much in another one I thought I'd done fine. I'm a bit disappointed, but most of the class apparently got low marks in that specific part, and the average mark was 24 or 25, so I'm not complaining too much.

I still don't know anything about my damn internship, though. See, I wanted to do it in a booking agency in Milan, the one that manages the tour of some of the most popular Italian artists, but the professor chose another girl. Then the head of the agency told him he didn't want that girl because she hadn't made a good impression on him and things got really complicated.

Anyway, since my "first choice" wasn't available, I went with my second one, that is, an internship abroad, and more specifically at the Gewandhaus Orchester in Leipzig. Which would be AMAZING, because that would mean I'd be in Germany for the Ärzte CD and tour next autumn. BUT I still don't know anything about it. Well, if they don't accept me there I'll do the internship at the symphonic orchestra in Milan, so that's not a big problem, but I'd like to know if I have to spend 3 months abroad, I'll have to find a flat and everything. SO complicated.

Other than that, I finally saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! I admit I didn't re-read the book before watching the film, so all the things they left out didn't bother me too much, also because I had found the book waaay too long, when I read it. Only a couple of things bothered me:

Under a cut, for those who haven't seen the film yet )

All in all, I liked it. And Snape and Sirius, boy, I was drooling half the time. The Italian actor who dubs Alan Rickman is brilliant, I was squeeing every time Snape spoke. And how can Gary Oldman look so hot at his age??? Helena Bohnam Carter was simply perfect, she was exactly how I imagined Bellatrix would be. And Tonks was cool as well.

Argh, tomorrow is the big day! :O Here, have a Snape sketch.

And last night I saw the new edition of "Lupin III and the Castle of Cagliostro". That's one of the funniest films I've ever seen. They can do ANYTHING with that Fiat 500! XD And Jigen is my soulmate, yes. ♥♥♥

I've just realised I haven't updated in a whole week. It seems I don't have anything interesting to share, I just read my flist, leave a few comments here and there and that's it. But now I do have something to post: a new Los Helmstedt comic strip!

http://www.doitcomics.net/loshelmstedt/bbylh007.html

Tell me I'm not the only one who finds it funny, please.

I went to see Spiderman 3 last night and the best part was watching the Order of the Phoenix trailer. Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix is simply perfect. And damn, how can Gary Oldman look so good? How old is he? But nothing will ever beat his Dracula looks. So bloody hot. Uhm, sorry for the horrible pun.

I can't wait for July, new film and new (last!) book within a couple of weeks, I'm going to die from excessive fangirling!

This is a little piece of birthday art for [livejournal.com profile] einheitstochter. I drew something yesterday and was about to post it, then I looked at it and decided I didn't like it, so I did something else. I was playing around with it in Photoshop, my original idea was to erase the red pencil sketch and add a bit of colour, but I did something wrong and got this effect. I liked it and decided to keep it that way, I hope you'll like it too, Itty. :)

Come get your present... If you dare...

GOD, this is so frustrating! I'm in our "central office", waiting to know what my next destination will be and the internet connection here is seriously fucked up. Whoever installed the server and set up the proxy didn't do such a great job, it took me forever to just check my mail and upload a couple of pictures this morning. Daaamn.

Anyway, I haven't posted fanart in a while, simply because I haven't really had time to draw anything lately. But I did draw something before going to München. I wanted to thank Itty for offering me one of her free entries to Bela's concert and for letting me sleep in her flat, but I didn't know what to do and didn't have much time, so I drew her a Snape. Luckily it didn't get ruined during the journey.

Don't mess with me

Don't mess with him )

Last night I went to see a music contest, a friend of ours sings in a band, they play blues/'70s rock and I have to say they were really good. The guitarist was amazing and we found out he's never had guitar lessons and can't even read sheet music! :O

They're called "Approach Band" and they have a website too! Quite, uhm, home-made.

http://www.geocities.com/gliapproach

There was also another band I liked, when I saw the singer, a very pretty girl in full rock'n'roll/metal outfit, I thought "Oh yeah, another band who wishes they were Lacuna Coil." And the first song they played actually was a Lacuna Coil cover, but after that they played a series of different songs, more hard rock than heavy metal, and I was completely blown away. She had an amazing voice and the band was brilliant, they even managed to turn "Left outside alone" by Anastacia into something good. And finished their set with "What's up" by Four No Blondes, which is one of my all-time favourite songs, so that was definitely a plus. They only played one song of their own, but it was a great performance, the singer was very charismatic.

They're called Synergia and here's the link to their website:

http://www.synband.com

There are two songs you can listen to, but I can assure you they're much, much better live.

And while I'm talking about music, take a look at the site of this friend of mine! His music is very evocative and has a lot of different influences, from classical to electronic.

Okaaay, enough public relations for today, let's go search for a hotel in Düsseldorf for November. Any suggestions?

Oh, my. The Easter Bunny bit me this morning and wouldn't let go until I sat down and drew this. I blame it on the awful amount of medicines I've been taking lately, they clearly must have messed with my brain. Well, what was left of it, anyway.

I hope you find it as funny as I do. But we all know I have a weird sense of humour. :P

ARGH, my throat hurts so much! And my ears too. :( Needless to say, I'll be spending the weekend at home trying to recover and getting utterly bored. :(

So, to fight off the boredom, I'll just nick borrow [livejournal.com profile] einheitstochter's idea.

Photo-meme: you name it, I'll take and post a picture of it.

And since I had nothing to do this morning and someone had pointed out I don't post HP art very often anymore...

Character: Remus Lupin

Poor Remus, he looks so tired... )

And I didn't even know today's Remus's birthday, I just felt like drawing him, don't know why. And looking at the drawing, I can see it was a bit influenced by [livejournal.com profile] einheitstochter's art. I hope you don't mind, dear!

I'm still alive. I've been feeling rather crappy these days and decided it was best if I didn't bother my flist with useless whining entries. There isn't a specific reason for my feeling low, well, there is, but it's long and complicated and there's nothing any of you can do about it, so let's just talk about something else.

Let's talk about drawings! I've wanted to draw Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter for a long time, because even if she's evil, bitchy and totally insane, she's the sexiest character of the whole damn series. I imagine her with long, dishevelled black hair and full crimson lips. A typical gothic beauty. The kind of beauty I long for and will never have. *sigh*

All right, I did say no whining, didn't I? Onto the art, then.

Sexy
Character: Bellatrix Lestrange
Black ink, coloured pencils and a tiny bit of Photoshop to smooth the background

She's so damn sexy, damn her... )

I also got a "commission" from one of my colleagues, he asked me to draw a colleague of ours during a football match, because he scored twice in their last match and they wanted to celebrate the event. I accepted and the result was silly to say the least. They posted the pic in their team's blog, here's the entry with my drawing.

A very simple drawing, but still better than nothing at all :P )

Does anybody have some new DÄ slash? Possibly with lots of snogging? I've already read the sequel to Geisterhaus, but I'm really in the mood for some snogging fic. There are still a lot of fics at Zonenfiction I haven't read yet, but I'm not in the mood for angst right now, what would you suggest me? *is in withdrawal*

It's time for another doodle! Itty, this is for you. ♥ I was very undecided and didn't know which interests to use at first, then I got this idea. I wonder what's going on in my brain sometimes... *shakes head*
