At last. My bodyswap [community profile] trope_bingo fic is done. I scratched the ending I was working on and got back to my original idea and I think it works better now. I still have to re-read it and find a title, but I should be able to post it in the next few days. I'm sure it won't get much attention because it's pre-slash, PG and it came out less humorous than I intended, but whatever, I want it out of the way.

And I think we all agree with Fanfic Flamingo here:

gothikmaus: (Ginger alert!)
My [community profile] trope_bingo fic is over 5000 words and I'm not done with it yet. Wow. I wanted to stop it at a certain point, but it didn't feel right, so I continued. It's almost finished though, so hopefully I'll be able to post it soon.

I'm also collaborating with a mini TV-series! Last summer in LA I met an Italian girl who was attending the production summer workshop at UCLA (I was attending the screenwriting workshop), now she's working on this mini-series for a local TV (she lives a couple of hours away from here) and said they needed a "supervisor" who could give them some advice and improve the general feel of it and she thought of me. It's basically like being a beta-reader for a screenplay. I'll post the link if the episodes are viewable online too.

It's snowing again. And today and tomorrow it's election days. Please, keep your fingers crossed and pray that Mr B. doesn't win again. Sigh.

My [community profile] trope_bingo bodyswap fic just hit 3200 words. And it's still pre-slash. How did that happen?

Would anyone be interested in beta-reading it when I'm done? No idea when I'll finish, it's almost done, but I don't have much time to write and I usually only do at the weekend, so it may take another week or two before it's ready. It's Hawaii Five-0, Steve/Danny pre-slash, rated PG, with a bit of team, a bit of Rachel and a bit of Grace. Not really crack but, hey, it's bodyswap.

Let me know!
gothikmaus: (WHEE!)
Still getting used to the time zone difference and waking up at 5 AM. Oh well, I figured I could use the extra time to get online before I go out. I'm gonna meet Nicole ([livejournal.com profile] unbelangbar) today! I'm really looking forward to it.

The workshop started last night and I'm so happy with it. Sure, I was shivering all the way through my introduction/presentation (and not just because of the air conditioning), but everyone was pretty nervous and it got better after the break. It's amazing how much I gathered from a single meeting, we focused on character archs and I already have a much clearer idea of where I want to go with my story. Of course it's just the beginning, but yeah, I can do it.

All right, I'll check a few things online and then have breakfast. With these, of course. Seriously, why don't we have these cereals in Italy, life's so unfair.
gothikmaus: (H50 - Steve *facepalm*)
So, what did I say I was going to do this afternoon? Draw some Steve/Danny because I've had this idea stuck in my mind for a week but was too sick to actually sit down and draw?

Forget it, I wrote Steve/Danny smut inspired but this very NSFW picture I saw earlier today. *facepalm*

Would anyone be so kind and have a look at it before I post it? It's about 1100 words, Steve/Danny, PWP.

EDIT: Here, have a snippet:

But he was only human. And seeing Steve spread out like that, well. He pressed the palm of his right hand against his fly, trying to adjust himself because suddenly his pants had become unbearably tight.

Fuck, he mentally repeated, fuck fuck fuck. He leaned forward, the tip of his tie brushing the back of Steve's thigh, and the mattress dipped under his weight as he rested a knee on the bed.

Well...

OMG I'm writing Steve/Catherine. :O Of course there's Steve/Danny implied and it's just a silly little thing, I don't even know if I'm ever going to finish it or post it, but still. Steve/Catherine.

Well, actually, there was a "Post a snippet from a WIP" meme going around recently, but I didn't have any WIP at the time, so I couldn't take part. I guess I could post a couple of lines from it now:

Would anyone be interested in reading it over if I ever decide to post it? *puss-in-boots eyes*

Today is the first Sunday of Advent, so I went and dug out last year's Christmas layout. Isn's that fat, fluffy robin cute?

I was browsing through the TV guide the other day and finally found out why the white part of my left eye is blueish. There was a short article about Daniela Ruah from NCIS:LA with a few quotes from her. In one of them she mentioned having mismatched eyes and I thought "Cool, I have mismatched eyes too!" As I read the whole thing I found out that not only is her right iris darker than the left one, but also the sclera (the white part) is darker. And my eyes are like that too, only that for me it's the left eye. That's a hyperpigmentation called "Nevus of Ota" and, according to Wikipedia, it can either be congenital or appear during puberty. As far as I know, my eyes have always been of two different colours (dark brown and hazel), but we only noticed that the sclera was blueish when I was in middle school. I even spent a whole afternoon with doctors testing my eyes, only to hear "Um, we have no idea what that is. But you have rather delicate eyes." Well, you try spending hours staring into various machines while people drip weird stuff in your eyes.

I never thought I'd find the reason for that in a TV magazine of all places! Here's what Daniela Ruah's eyes look like:

My eyes don't usually stand out like that, maybe because I wear glasses most of the time, but sometimes my right eye colour gets lighter and brighter, especially on sunny summer days, and when it does, the difference is pretty noticeable. A few people said it looks kind of spooky, but I like having mismatched eyes. :)

In other news: the writing sample for the workshop is done! \o/ Now onto the Statement of Purpose. D:

Writing

gothikmaus: (Moonlight - Angsty Mick)
After last year's spectacular failure, I'm not taking part in NaNowriMo in 2011. Not that the failure itself surprised me, I'm a very slow writer and I knew there was no way I could dish out 50k words in 30 days, but I still thought I would write a little more.

But I haven't given up on that particular idea, I went back and re-read what I have so far, tweaked a few things and I'm planning on going on. My goal is to finish it, I don't care if it ends up 20k or 50k.

What I must work on, though, is a writing sample for that screenwriting workshop I'd like to attend next summer. According to the website, application forms will be online from January 2012, so I have all the time I need. But I don't want to keep procrastinating like I usually do and I've already started working on it. I know what I want to write, but I'm not used to the screenplay format, so I keep writing and rewriting scenes. And starting so early gives me some extra time, so I'd be able to think of something else if I don't like what I have.

So, yeah, baby steps this year. I can do it.

Also, I plan on wasting my evening/night watching Moonlight. Only 6 episodes to go! \o/ Oh, Mick...

If I didn't have work to do, 3 articles to hand in by Thursday and a punch bag to beat up tonight, I'd write so much angst/UST right now. I mean, Steve. Steve. He just wants Danny to be happy. And Danny. He thought he had everything he wanted until he finally realises he left out an important part of the equation and doesn't know what to do. Did I fall into a fanfic here? Did I? (And I mean a good fanfic, not a HP7-epilogue kind of thing.)

God, I've wanted to write an angsty fic ever since watching the finale, but angst is difficult to write. But this. This is exactly the set-up I had in mind. And it's canon. Oh, my heart. T_T

I need an angsty Steve/Danny icon after this.
gothikmaus: (Tea)
I know I haven't written much lately, and most of it was drabbles or ficlets, but I've seen this meme and I'm curious:

If you had to pick one fic of mine that is the one you identify with me, what would it be?

I guess I could ask the same question about fanart as well...

Phew!

Yes, the two articles for this week's edition of the local newspaper are done! \o/ I'm not so sure about one of them, but the editor in chief can fix it himself if that's not what he had in mind.

I also added a little scene to my pseudo-NaNo project last night. I'm still awfully behind schedule, but I knew from the start that I'd never be able to finish in 30 days, and I'm quite sure the whole thing will be much shorter than 50,000 words, but the important thing is to keep going. I've had this idea nagging at me for far too long, I need to get it out of my system.

Slowly, but steadily

And I've just got a call for a job interview on Friday. Well, it's not a real interview, I just have to fill in a form of some sort. Oh well, better than nothing at all.

I... did it

OMFG I wrote a Holmes/Watson PWP. *shifty eyes*

Why do I have to struggle to write 500 words for my pseudo-NaNo project, while today I dished out 1262 words of gratuitous porn within a couple of hours? Sigh.

This is the first time I've written in the Sherlock Holmes fandom, well the second if we count the Sherlock ficlet I wrote a couple of months ago, and I'm terribly nervous (even if it's just a pointless PWP for the shkinkmeme), could any of you take a look at it before I post it? Please? *puppy eyes*
gothikmaus: (Olsen - Yeah baby)
The pseudo-NaNo project is going slowly, but I've always been a very slow writer, so that's not surprising. The positive thing is that I've worked on it every day this week, even if it was just to add a couple of paragraphs in the middle of the night. If I manage to keep it up, I may even have a chance at finishing, if not by the end of November, at least within a couple of months. It's a bit of a Penelope-project, meaning I write a scene one day (typically at night) and rewrite half of it the next morning/afternoon. I know that's not the right method, I should just keep writing and go back to editing when I'm done, but editing actually helps me getting started, so instead of just staring blankly at the screen for half an hour, I reread what I already have. Baby steps are better than no steps at all.

Sooo faaar awaaay...

My two mini-articles were published in the newspaper! One of them was just a random piece of local news, but the guy I talked to sent us a brilliant pic, so it ended up on the front page. XD I also did some editing for a few articles written by another girl and got to use XPress. I like having something to do, although I'm not sure when (or even if) they'll pay me.

Random video moment:

1) Someone posted this at [livejournal.com profile] shkinkmeme. I don't think I need to explain:

2) I found this link somewhere on tumblr, Benedict Cumberbatch being adorable:

My God, I'd never thought writing 1400 characters would be so difficult. Not words, mind you, just bloody characters. That may depend on the fact that the piece of news was really tiny; or that two of our neighbours decided that today would be the perfect day for coming over and arguing very loudly with my parents, making it impossible for me to concentrate. Fffuuu-

Anyway, hopefully those 1400 characters will be published as my first mini-article on the local newspaper. (And no, it's not the one about health, that one got delayed.) I should write another one as well, but I still haven't received the infos I need.

I also got my hair cut today. It's good to have straight hair every now and then. *strokes hair* And I had to drive my mother around for some shopping. That means I haven't had any time to work on my not-really-NaNo-project at all. *headdesk* There's NO WAY I'll be able to write 50,000 words (there's a reason why I'm so fond of drabbles: I can't write long stories!) I'll be happy if I can just finish the bloody thing.

Here, have a counter thingy, courtesy of Write or Die.

Feel my fail.

It's been raining for two days straight and every river and canal in Milan overflowed its banks. Oh, joy.

So, it's November. I've always been tempted to join the NaNoWriMo madness but, knowing myself, I'm sure I'd never finish in time. That doesn't mean I can't use the generalised writing frenzy as a stimulus. I am, as a matter of fact, working on something. It's an old idea, and by old I mean at least 10 years old, but it could get interesting; let's see what I can make of it. I actually had to go and read a few short stories in Italian before I could write anything decent, I'm so used to reading and writing in English that I can barely write fiction in my native language any more. How sad is that?
gothikmaus: (Daria skull)
My first article for the local newspaper will be about health. The subject is a bit general, but at least I know what I'm looking for. And I have an acquaintance who could help me find information for another article, I hope I can gather enough before Tuesday (when we're all meeting again), so I'll talk to the chief editor about it, he said he's open to suggestions.

Half of the new photos on Farin's website were taken in Italy. Farin, how dare you come to my country and not tell me anything!

Apropos photos, I love this one:

Click it! It gets bigger!

Am I the only one who thinks it looks like an engagement photo? Or rather, a "behind the scenes" of the shoot. >_>
gothikmaus: (Daria skull)
I had a meeting with the editor of the local newspaper today and, unless something really bad (or really good) happens, I'll start working for them soon. It would only be a collaboration and the pay is extremely low, but a) I'll get a foot in the door and b) it's better than staying home doing nothing but job-hunting.

I'm looking forward to meeting the others on Thursday. Apparently there are a few areas where help is badly needed, because no one wants to write about certain things: namely sport, education and health. Personally, I wouldn't mind writing about any of those themes, so that shouldn't be a problem. Besides, they'll teach me how to use QuarkXPress and InDesign, which may come in handy in future.

So, yeah, today wasn't completely wasted. :) I'm not getting overly optimistic, but it's good to finally have something to look forward to.
gothikmaus: (Sherlock)
Sooo, I finally finished that Sherlock ficlet and would like someone to beta-read it before I post it. It's about 980 words, rated PG and with just a hint of slash. I haven't had a beta reader in years (well, duh, I mostly write drabbles), but I'd really appreciate an opinion on this, writing for a new fandom always makes me nervous. =/

Also, I think [livejournal.com profile] schonste will like this:

Er.

gothikmaus: (D'oh!)
Looking back at my last 10 LJ entries, I noticed 8 are about Sherlock Holmes. Oops. It's nice to be part of an active fandom though, since there isn't much going on in the DÄ one. Still, I'd like to finish my [livejournal.com profile] drabbles100 project, I still have 20 drabbles to write. I'd also like to write something for the Sherlock Holmes fandom, but I don't feel confident enough, what with Victorian English and everything. I may write something BBC!Sherlock-related, though. I find these prompts very interesting, for example. Let's see what happens after the third episode on Sunday. I'll probably just write a series of short sketches or ficlets, God knows it takes me forever to write longer fics.

I inked the Holmes/Watson drawing I posted the other day and I'm almost done colouring it, I'm very happy with the way it's turning out.

And now off to finish writing a post for my Italian blog.
gothikmaus: (Grr)
Looking at pictures from last night on the DÄOF forum makes me so envious. ;__;

*don'tbegreedydon'tbegreedydon'tbegreedy*

*sigh*

Today I sent a story to the Arthouse Tacheles in Berlin! They're organising an event with Italian artists and are looking for artists, musicians and writers. They're never gonna choose me, but I decided to give it a try anyway and sent a story I wrote a long time ago, but that was completely rewritten for the occasion. Keep your fingers crossed for me! >_<

And now: rant time! A few weeks ago I wrote about a super secret graphic commission I got. Well, since it's over I guess I can talk openly about it now. I'm collaborating with the Democratic Party for the local elections and they asked me to draw their logo. I accepted and asked them if they had already something in mind, like certain colours, certain symbols etc. They said I could do whatever I wanted. After a quick brainstorming with one of the guys who are in charge, we decided to do something using either white, green and red (the Italian flag colours and the colours of the national Democratic Party logo) or something with blue and green, our town's colours. I did a quick sketch when I got home that night. The next day, the guy calls me and says "Say, can you finish the logo tonight? We want to send it to the local newspaper." I panicked a little and told him I had only done a rough version of the white/green/red one, if he gave me more time I could do a few different versions so they could choose the one they liked best. He said not to worry and to just send him what I had. The next morning I get an email from another of the guys saying not to use white/green/red, but blue, green and orange instead. Orange? Whatever, that's your logo, not mine. I come up with a couple of versions at work (luckily there wasn't much to do that day) and send them over. He's not really convinced. I work on them some more at home and send him the new versions. He says maybe they'll wait and send the logo to the newspaper the following week, so I'll have more time to work on it.

And that was it. I asked him about it the next time I met him and he said they still hadn't made up their mind. Then a few days ago they sent me another email asking me if I could fix another logo, changing the name of the candidate and turning "President" into "Mayor". I did and sent him the finished pic. After a couple of days I wrote to him asking if the second logo was all right and if they had news about the first logo. He replied the second one was great. As for the first one, they decided to have it done by a professional graphic designer.

Now, the first thing I'd told them when they asked me to draw their logo was "Are you sure? I'm not a pro." They were sure. I also told them that if they didn't like it they just had to tell me, it wouldn't be a problem, I wouldn't get offended. But now I'm quite annoyed. I mean, you want to go and get a pro? Fine, just tell me. What if I had wasted nights working on it? I'm doing you a favour here.

Whatever. I'm going to the theatre tonight, that will definitely improve my mood.
