Concerts!

Last weekend was amazing. On Saturday night I saw Easy Cure (The Cure cover band) and Mode Inside (Depeche Mode cover band). I've seen Easy Cure many many times, so I knew they'd put up a great show, but I didn't know Mode Inside. Well, they're brilliant. The singer's got a beautiful, deep voice and he's quite easy on the eye. ;)

And on Sunday night I went to a Duran Duran concert! Again, I didn't quite know what to expect: of course I know most of their hits, but I'd never seen them live before. Well, it was the best concert I've seen in a while. They even played Space Oddity by David Bowie! It was a Planet Earth / Space Oddity medley, followed by Ordinary World. I was actually close to tears, as both Space Oddity and Ordinary World are two of my all time favourite songs. T_T

And I suddenly remembered that my natural habitat is right in front of a stage. XD

I haven't updated this in ages. I'm getting lazier and lazier with my online activities, mostly because I really don't want to stare at my laptop screen in the evening. And whenever I do get online, I spend most of the time looking up flats. Which brings me to one of the activities that's occupied a good portion of my time lately: I've been looking for a flat for the last couple of months, but it's not easy. I've visited a few, both in Milan and in my hometown, but every time there's something that makes me go "No." I'll just have to keep looking, I suppose, but it's so frustrating. Also because Milan is notoriously very expensive (unless you choose a sketchy area, which I'm not going to do) and my hometown has become the second most expensive town in the whole province! T_T

Other than that, I started playing the bass again! I went to an Easy Cure concert last week and thought "Right, it's time to dig out the bass." I'm terribly rusty, but it's a start.

I should also finish the Mystrade fanfic I started writing last month, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

What else? I went to see Deadpool yesterday. I had no idea it was going to be so violent. I have to admit I've never read the comics, so it's my fault, but it was really too much. Or maybe I'm just getting more squeamish as I get older...

EDIT: I forgot to mention I also saw the LUPIN III film! My inner otaku has been squeeing ever since! #teamJigen 4EVAH! XD

I haven't updated in ages, but the last weeks have been awfully busy. At least the Christmas shopping is finally done. I also wanted to post pictures of the Christmas cards I sent to my LJ friends, but I still need to crop and resize the pics, I'll do it next week when I'm home from the office.

Last night I went to an Easy Cure concert with V and they were great as usual. I've seen a lot of their concerts, once I even went to London to see them, they're really, really good. If you can't go to a Cure gig, they're the next best thing. V knows the singer because they used to work together, so we chatted a little with him after the concert. And for the first time in my life I saw a drummer tear apart a snare drum, they had to use a spare one because the skin had a long slash running in the middle of it. I was impressed. XD

Oh man, my friends really did surprise me last night. We went to see Easy Cure live and then stayed at the same club because it's one of the few places in Milan that we actually like. After the gig we went outside for a bit and I thought they just wanted to give me my present. Well, it turned out they had a cake in the trunk of P's car! I felt a little bit like Steve in the latest H50 episode and I guess I must've had the same expression too. :3

They got me some really cool presents: this watch, an Asimov book, mascara and shoe laces (pink with black music notes and grey with little black skulls).

The concert was great, Easy Cure are really, really good. We chatted a bit with the singer later on, we had already met him a few times (D. and I even went to London to see one of their gigs a few years ago) and he used to work with my friend V, so it was like a reunion.

But now I'm dead, I'm not used to going to bed at 4:30 AM anymore!

PS Just found this on tumblr. Spot-on, I'd say:

My birthday was pretty low-key this year: my mother is sick and couldn't bake a cake, so we just bought some pastries. I didn't celebrate, it's way too difficult to organise stuff in the middle of the week. But I invited my friends to the Easy Cure concert in Milan on Saturday, luckily it's in one of our favourite clubs, so we'll just stay there after the gig for some belated birthday celebration. My friend V. got all excited about it and proposed a make-up session at her place. She said "Come over at 5 PM!" When I asked her why so early (the gig starts well after 10 PM), she replied "But it will take me at least an hour to do your make up!" WTF is she planning to do to me??? XD I think I'll politely decline. XD

Anyway, I didn't write about my night as a radio speaker. I had a lot of fun, I thought I would be nervous as hell but the mood was very friendly and relaxed. And I didn't even stutter! \o/ Here, have a snippet of my friend Barbara (the real radio host) and I talking about Die Toten Hosen version of "Azzurro". In Italian, of course:

I'm the one who speaks first and explains what happens in the video. Man, do I talk fast...

Job interview wasn't too bad, the job in itself wouldn't be my first choice (or second, or third), but it's the only one I have at the moment, so I'll consider it. I have a second interview at the end of the month, even if I'm praying every deity I've ever heard of to let me find something else in the meantime. Not bloody likely. It would be only temporary anyway, I'd step in for a woman on maternity leave.

The funny thing about today, though, is that when I arrived at the office I saw a man and a woman waiting to enter and I thought "He looks familiar, I've seen him before. But where?" And then it occurred to me he was the singer from Easy Cure! I know he works for a pr agency, probably the brand where I had my interview uses that agency for its campaigns. I wanted to walk up to him and say hi (I've seen quite a few of their gigs, I even went to London to see them!), but in the end I didn't. Even if I guess I could've gone to him and asked if they had any vacancies. Again, not bloody likely. By the way, I've just had a look at their site and they're playing in Rome tonight - 600 km from here. I wonder if they even rehearsed.

The world is truly a tiny little place.

EDIT: Most adorable Life on Mars clip ever, y/y?

What a great night we had yesterday. Stefano, Elena, Vale and I went to see Easy Cure, THE Italian Cure cover band, and they were brilliant as usual. I've seen them a few times, last night must have been the 7th concert or something, and it's always a pleasure. During "A forest" a little wave of nostalgia hit me, that was the first song I've ever learned to play on the bass after all. *sigh*

After them a Depeche Mode cover band played, a replacement of the band that was supposed to play. They were good too, but it's difficult to live up to Dave Gahan's fantastic voice and stage antics. And gorgeousness.

After the concerts we stayed and danced, the DJ started out with '80s music, then rock, electro and indie. Oh, it had been so long since I'd heard "Du hast" and "Hey girl, hey boy" in a club. At one point, just after the gigs, I turned around... and saw a guy wearing a Rock'n'Roll Realschule T-shirt! I got all excited and was like "OMGOMGOMG he's wearing an Ärzte T-shirt AAAH!" Elena said I should "socialise", so I grabbed her and walked up to him. I tapped him on the shoulder and asked him if he knew Die Ärzte, but he shook his head and looked at me as if he had no idea what I was talking about. I thought he hadn't heard me - the music was quite loud - and I repeated "Die Ärzte, the band on your T-shirt." But he just said "No, I bought it years ago, just because." I really didn't know how to carry on the conversation at that point, so I just said "Ah, OK," gave him a thumbs up and walked back to Vale and Ste. Vale of course told me "WHAT? You left? You should have hit on him!" Bah. I don't make passes at people in clubs, last time I did... Uhm. Whatever.

Anyway! I booked the hostel in Hamburg and I'm really happy about it! Yes! I still haven't decided if I'm gonna wait till December and buy the FURT album in Hamburg or if I'm going to buy it online. I may end up buying it together with the DÄ calendar next week.

Also, today I got up around 12:30 (man, I'm not used to going to sleep at 4:30 AM anymore) and had a wonderful brunch that filled me with joy. Freshly made orange juice, cappuccino, a banana and my favourite bread (rye flour + sunflower and sesame seeds) with butter and brown sugar on it. I used to eat bread with butter and sugar on holiday when I was younger, and that contributed greatly to today's good mood.

So, yes, a positive entry. There have been too little of those in my LJ lately.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I've just found out that Easy Cure, a very famous Italian tribute band of The Cure, played at my favourite club last Friday! TRAGEDY!!! Why didn't I get their newsletter? I usually get it, why not this time??? I wanted to check their site (http://www.easycure.it) last week but I was busy at work and forgot. Aaah, it's not fair!!!

And my right wrist hurts like hell. I shouldn't have played so much during the weekend, but our guitarist keeps proposing songs with bloody difficult bass lines and since I'm not such a great bassist, the only solution is: practise practise practise till your hands fell off. So now my wrist is dead, but I can play "From out of nowhere" by Faith No More half decently. And I found a pair of abandoned drumsticks in the rehearsal room last night, which I promptly grabbed and took home, so now I can practise the infamous "drumstick twirling" HAHA! We're taking a 2-week break now, because our guitarist is going to Cameroon to visit his girlfriend's family, so I have time to recover and practise some more.

On the university front: I told my boss I want to attend that Master's and feel very relieved. I was a bit worried at first, I'm leaving a good job, but I've thought it over and I'm sure about my decision. When I started working here I had decided I would try for a couple of years and then do something else; I had sort of forgotten my original intention but now, two years later, I really have the chance to change. Let's just hope everything works out fine.

And I started writing slash again. I still have that [livejournal.com profile] drabbles100 project to finish after all... ;)

Oh, and I've just found the BEST quote ever, written by my favourite Italian journalist:

"Un italiano non ha bisogno di assaggiare qualcosa per dire se è buono. Un italiano lo sa."
Beppe Severgnini

("An Italian doesn't need to taste something to say if it's good. An Italian knows.")

My London weekend was bloody brilliant. I got to meet some of the people who post in the Cure Forum, saw Easy Cure live and drank pints and pints of beer. And didn't even get drunk, go me! :P

During the Easy Cure gig there were 2 girls in the front row that were sort of putting up an adult show for the band, kissing and touching and rubbing against each other. The guys seemed to appreciate it very much. ^_^ One of them called the guitarist over while he was playing and snogged him in front of everyone! O_O After the show Demi and I chatted with the band and he said he wasn't expecting that and that he thought she was just going to request a song. Yeah, right. Everyone teased him to no end about that. :P The bassist, on the other hand, wasn't very happy, he said there was a bloke in front of him who kept reaching out and touching his hand during the show. And while we were talking a guy walked over and said he was sooo sexy and caressed his arm. You should've seen his face... Poor thing, he's so straight. XD

On the shopping front, I bought a very cool Nightmare Before Christmas bag, a black corduroy skirt and a pair of over-the-knee socks with skulls and crossbones on them. Demi, on the other hand, bought the whole Camden Market. :P

And now I'm back. *sigh* I wish I could've stayed longer, 3 days can't possibly be enough.

Last night's concert was bloody brilliant. First I met Nicci, Chris and Barbara from the Cure Forum, we went to eat some pizza (I didn't actually eat, I was still full from lunch :P) and took a walk around Milan. The weather was horrible, grey and cold and windy, but at least it didn't rain. And, hopefully, I didn't act like a total idiot. They even complimented me on my English. *blush*

Then before the concert I met Demi, Ste and Elena and since I was freezing I had a delicious Irish Coffee. It cost 6 bloody euros but it helped. =) We went to the only pub that was open on a Sunday night and you could tell what kind of concert there was in the club down the street, what with all the guys in make up with crazy hairdos. :D

Anyway, the band was amazing, they just keep getting better and better. They played the whole Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography albums with just a few minutes breaks between the sets. The Pornography set in particular was really intense. And the encores (Just like heaven, 10:15 Saturday night, Boys don't cry, Killing an Arab) had the whole venue dancing.

After the concert we chatted a bit with Luca, the singer, and with the drummer and told them Demi and I are going to the Curedrink in London next Saturday and Luca looked very happy about it. Heh, must've thought we're 2 crazy groupies. :P

I slept about 4 hours last night and this morning I felt like a zombie, but it was definitely worth it. I can't wait to be in London! :D
gothikmaus: (Default)
*sigh* I should've known. None of my friends wants to come to London with me for Curedrink UK 2005. And going alone wouldn't be the same.

Well, I sorta know the singer from Easy Cure, one of the 2 bands that will be performing, I haven't heard from him for a long time, but I could send him an email and ask him whether he knows if there's someone else leaving from Milan (there MUST be someone), but... I don't know, I don't want to bother him (or sound desperate and pathetic.) I'd really like to go, though.

Any suggestion?

Current mood: pessimistic
