Just watched "Mercy". And I'm so glad I'm alone in the apartment right now, because I swear, I was about to cry when the story reached a certain point (not gonna spoil, if you watched the film you know what I'm talking about).

And, interestingly enough, the story has pretty much the same structure as the one I'm writing for the workshop, going back and forth through flashbacks, so I can use it as a loose template. Actually, our assignment for next week is to watch three films, analyse them and break them down on a timeline/plot structure, so it was a very lucky coincidence that I watched this movie today. I had actually planned to watch "A beginner's guide to endings", but it wasn't available on Netflix. Oh, and Netflix. Thank God for Netflix. Too bad we don't have it in Italy, I guess I'll just have to watch as many films as I can in these 2 months.

Also, I recognised Holly Valance even before she turned towards the camera. In my defense, I knew her well before I'd even heard about Alex.

I did cry during that movie. It's really one of my all-time favorites!

I don't usually cry when I watch films, but in that moment I almost did.

And I could clearly recognise the elements we talked about in the workshop just yesterday (plot points, recurring elements etc), it was very interesting seeing the things I learned about applied in an actual film!

That is interesting! I have some background in theater, although I consider myself primarity a musician rather than an actor. The recurring elements construction is common in both writing and music. The musical Les Miserables uses that extensively in the music, with themes for characters and the interweaving of themes to connect scenes.

I haven't watched Mercy in awhile, but I can't think of any recurring elements from that! But I was probably too busy watching hot and handsome Scott. Yeah, I wasn't in analysis mode! XD

Well, I don't know if "recurring element" is the right word here, but there were certain scenes that echoed things that had already happened in previous scenes. The main one was the asthma inhaler, of course, which at first seemed just a small unimportant detail. And then the blond waitress and the fact that both times when she and Scott's character are supposed to have sex they end up not doing it because of Mercy, even if in completely different circumstances. And maybe the elevator too? I'm pretty sure both Scott's character and Mercy use it in different moments. Also, the ending echoes the scene where Scott goes out onto the roof and meets Mercy for the first time.

As I said, we talked about timelines and plot structure just the other day, so it was easy to see all these things throughout the film. Even if I got a little distracted by Scott. ;)

That movie made me cry! Think part of it was I had come home from work sick, was wrapped up in a blanket on the couch and decided to watch the movie.

Not the type of movie you want to watch when you're sick or despressed! What a great movie and I've been meaning to watch it again.

No, that's definitely NOT a movie for when you're feeling depressed. But it's really quite beautiful.

That movie got me choked up too! Glad it helped with your screenwriting assignment. You'll have to tell Scott that next time---I bet he'll be so pleased!

It was so great to meet you!
