Last night, 7 or 8 years after seeing them live for the last time, I went to a Bluvertigo concert. I was a huge fan when I was in school (thanks S. for giving me their second CD as Christmas gift in 1997) and they're still one of my favourite bands. The concert was great, they're very good musicians and Morgan (the singer and bass player) is still as charismatic as ever, but something was missing. Maybe the short summer tour wasn't enough to get back the "band feeling" - they hadn't played together for a few years after all; maybe it was the location, a bit too big for them right now; maybe it was the technical problems Morgan seemed to have (not smoking a whole pack of cigarettes during one concert may also help your voice, dear). Or maybe it was just me: of course seeing them now it's different from seeing them 10 years ago, when I was 18 and they were at their highest point.
But their shows are always worth seeing, especially when they get half naked and start randomly hugging each other. (At one point Morgan went over to Andy and hugged him, and a girl standing behind me squealed: "They love each other!" XD)
There are rumours of a new album coming out next year. Hopefully that's true and by the time they go on tour again the "band feeling" will be back. But I know I'll go see them live no matter what, don't they say you'll always love the music you fall in love with when you're 17?

Date: 2008-09-10 11:21 am (UTC)I'm glad you enjoyed Bluevertigo - I listened to some of their music on myspace, I can imagine it's pretty impressing live. I guess you're right, though - if a band hasn't played together for a while, they need some time to get back into the thing they used to have together. Some make it, some don't - let's hope Bluevertigo belong to the former ones. ;)

Date: 2008-09-10 01:09 pm (UTC)As for Bluvertigo, their concerts have always been impressive, they mix rock and electronic music and create a very peculiar sound. This time the electronic part was even stronger than in the past, maybe they were influenced by Megahertz (http://www.myspace.com/megahertzspace), their opening act, who also played with Bluvertigo's singer in his solo concerts. I saw one of his gigs last year and it was so unusual: just two people, a dozen keyboards (I'm not kidding, there were keyboards everywhere) and a theremin. They even played "Happy birthday to you" with the theremin, 'cos it was the singer's birthday. Aww. ^_^

Would be very nice to have the lyrics. I think I could understand some of it in Italian, too. I don't understand much spoken Italian, but i can read it. I think we had that subject with Spanish some time ago in the elite? Don't remember what the coherence was. Coherence? Elite? WTF? ;)

Date: 2008-09-12 09:06 pm (UTC)I currently have 2 posters on the wall above my headboard (DÄ) and 2 on the door (The Cure in the front, DÄ in the back), plus the DÄ calendar and some DÄ and Los Helmstedt photos I took at various concerts. And random postcards and pictures. The last Bluvertigo poster I had on my door was from their 1998 tour, an X-ray image of a man with a gun in his mouth...
I'll have to look for the file with the translations, some of the lyrics are quite cryptic, but very interesting too.

Date: 2008-09-11 03:41 am (UTC)Let's see, when I was 17 I was a U2 nut. I still love their old stuff but I refuse to listen to the new because it just gets worse and worse. And 19 onwards is DÄ, I guess.
