Dec. 3rd, 2005 11:44 amFunny fact of the day: there's one of my colleagues who can't stand German, so of course I speak to him in German just to spite him (yes, we're as mature as a group of 5-year-old kids :P). Anyway, yesterday, after the umpteenth teasing, he told me "You're a Hun. Or a Longobard." What, not a Goth? Haha. Too bad you can't translate that pun into Italian, it would've been funny.
I didn't point out that Huns came from Asia, from Mongolia I think, and not from northern Europe, but as for the Longobard thing he could be right, because I live near Monza, which was the capital of the Longobard kingdom, hehe. Which reminded me of another thing. The first time I came across the German word "scherzen" (to joke) I was amazed, because it's very similar to the Italian word "scherzare", which has the same meaning. And I wondered if the German word derived from Latin or the Italian word derived from German. Or Indo-Germanic. Or Althochdeutsche. Or whatever. (Man, I should've studied philology, not sociology.) Well, I looked it up and, surprise surprise, it comes from Longobard! The little language geek inside me rejoices. X)
All right, enough nonsense for today. I'll just post the meme that has been all over my flist for the last couple of days.
1) Reply with your name and I'll respond with something random about you.
2) I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3) I'll pick a flavor/color of jello to wrestle with you in.
4) I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
5) I'll tell you my first memory of you.
6) I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7) I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8) If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal.
And I should do a Xmas version of one of my icons. I'm waaaaay to lazy at the moment, though. :P And I'll be out all afternoon and probably all day tomorrow, so I wouldn't have time anyway. But I'm very pleased because I'm almost done with the Xmas "gifts" to send to my flists. Wheee!
EDIT: Did the Christmas icon. Heehee. XD OMG, it's late! *dashes off*

Date: 2005-12-04 09:59 pm (UTC)Answer 5 : and that's still true! I really find you're talented, so why shouldn't I be a total fangirl while reading good stuff?
And about the question 7...Well, I found out DÄ really by chance the last summer...The video of "Deine Schuld" was on Viva, I think, and I remember my reaction..."Gah. German rock is really the most horrible thing existing. Look at that video! Totally bloody!! And that guy...He isn't singing, just screaming!! And blah...He (= Farin) looks really...Hmpf!" (Though, there was nothing better on the other TV programs, and I listened to it till the end). And then...Somehow, the song remained in my mind, and I discovered I was really loving it...And so began the deep (and forbidden XD) love between Eryka and Die Ärzte (though, you'll notice Eryka loves more DÄ than DÄ loves Eryka... *sighs*)XD

Date: 2005-12-03 11:49 pm (UTC)I'm a quarter Swedish...my grandmother had Swedish parents, although she was born in the US. She never spoke it, because her older sisters were ridiculed in school for speaking Swedish. So my mom and I decided to get in touch with our ancestry and learn Swedish. It's a beautiful language, and if I wouldn't keep getting it confused with German, I'd be a lot better at it ;) But as it is I'm not sooo bad. Plus, I love learning foreign languages...my mom bought an Italian "word-a-day" calendar for next year *lol* She figures since I know French I could pick up Italian pretty fast ;P (well I can kind of read it...)

Date: 2005-12-04 08:24 pm (UTC)They were ridiculed for speaking Swedish? Man, children are really mean sometimes. And to think it's a luck to be able to speak foreign languages from an early age, you can learn pretty fast when you're very young. I have some relatives in the US and my little cousin, who is 9 years old, can speak English, Italian and Spanish, because his father's family is from Italy and his mother is from Puerto Rico. Lucky little pest, speaking 3 languages without even having to study. :P
Hey, let me know if you need any help with Italian, it can be a frustrating language to learn... :P

Date: 2005-12-03 01:52 pm (UTC)In Spanish class, I recall that the sentence for 'I wash my face' was 'Me lava la cara'--I wash myself the face.
I had straight A's (highest grade in American schools) in Spanish, then when I graduated i never used it. I know if I studied languages now I'd probably excel, but things are too crazy right now.
