Challenge #13
TALK ABOUT A COMMUNITY SPACE YOU LIKE. It doesn’t need to be your favorite, or the one where you spend the most time (although it certainly can be). Maybe it’s even one that you’ve barely visited. But talk about that space and how it helps support fannish community.
This is a tough one, because most of the online spaces I know don't really give me a sense of community. So I'm going to talk about a community space I miss.
I miss LJ communities. Sure, there are still communities on LJ, but ever since the mass migration a few years ago, things just haven't been the same. People are now scattered around different online spaces (DW, Tumblr, Discord), some changed fandoms, others stopped being active online. Things change, people change, we all have our own lives and commitments, and it would probably have happened not matter what, but not having a common "online playground" sped up the process. It's sad but inevitable, I suppose.
Yet here I am after all these years, still thinking fondly of "the good old LJ times" and wondering if I'll ever find something like that again.
How Did the Fandom Snowflake Challenge Go?
It went well! I was really looking forward to Snowflake this year and I had a lot of fun, even if January was quite busy work-wise, so some days I didn't have much time or energy left.
But I did something new (my very first moodboard!), interacted with new people, and discovered new things (who knew there are so many tropes?!)
So, I'd say it was a success and I'm glad I took part in it.
