Mein Deutsch lebt!
Jul. 7th, 2004 10:00 pmThis morning at work the girl sitting next to me was checking a phone number and I could hear what the operator was saying too 'cos she was using a speaker. The authomatic operator was speaking in German, because this girl was calling a bank in Bolzano (Bozen), which is an Italian city, but in an area where the main language is German. Well, the operator said that the bank had a new phone number and then proceeded to announce it in German. I saw a look of sheer panic on my colleague's face, so I translated the number for her in real time. I'm pretty happy about that, 'cos it means my German is still alive. Awfully rusty, yes, but alive nonetheless. I may even be able to speak decently when I'm Berlin in August...
Ich sollte auf Deutsch lesen/schreiben/sprechen, aber ich bin so faul... =P
Oh, and the mechanic only wanted 10 euros, because the tyre was neither slashed nor pierced, it was simply missing the valve. All's well that ends well, isn't it? ^_^
