gothikmausFirst day of sales and of course it's raining buckets. Oh, well, I drove my mother to a nearby shop and did manage to find something I needed, so I'm not complaining.
Let's talk about Sherlock.
I consider "The empty hearse" a meta-episode, there were so many references to fandom I wonder what normal viewers must have thought. Especially about the explicit reference to slash (and of course the slasher was considered "the weird one", as if wearing those hats and obsessing over an allegedly dead person is normal).*
Also, there were references to pretty much every single ship:
- Sherlock/John (Mrs Hudson is shipper #1)
- Sherlock/Molly (lucky girl)
- Sherlock/Mycroft
- Sherlock/Moriarty
- Sherlock/Lestrade
- Sherlock/Anderson
- Sherlock/Mary (I'm not the only one who noticed those glances, right?)
And, of course, the only real canon ship, John/Mary. Which brings me to a totally gratuitous speculation: John and Mary are getting married in the next episode; the original John Watson becomes a widower; someone on Tumblr pointed out that it was Mary who received those texts when John was kidnapped, so whoever kidnapped him (Milverton?) did that to get to her, not to Sherlock. All this leads me to think poor John won't be a happily married man for long... :(
The whole episode felt a bit disjointed and confusing, but I loved Sherlock and Mycroft's interactions ("I am the smart one!" Really, Mycroft? How old are you, five?) and the fact that Sherlock got his little revenge using Mycroft's own words ("How would you know?") I also loved Mycroft's "Change the subject, now!" It felt like a real discussion between brothers, like "OMG, I'm not talking to you about THAT!" And his face was priceless. XD And Mummy Holmes? She may be ordinary, but she knows how to get what she wants. I was surprised at how quickly she put her foot in the doorway, I bet Sherlock must have tried to slam the door in her face a million times, she's more than prepared for that. XD
In conclusion: I'm looking forward to the next episode, oh, yes.
*EDIT: I didn't mean it in a negative or judgemental way, I actually think Gatiss was trying to say slashers might seem weird at first, but they are no worse than some other fans who think only their head-canon is valid and everyone else should agree with them and do what they say.
