Test, test... 1,2... test

I did it. I imported all my LJ entries on Dreamwidth. I will still be using LJ as my primary journal, but seeing how many problems that site has had lately (even last night, ffs), having a back-up makes me feel a little less worried. This is my first crossposted entry. Yay?

It feels weird using DW after all this time on LJ (this year will be exactly 10 years I've been on Livejournal). My paid account expires in September and I really don't know if I'm going to renew it. I read somewhere that paid accounts will be changed, something about paying only for the options you use and if that's the case I'll only pay for extra icon space, because that's the only service I use. That and the custom mood theme. But, just in case, I started deleting a few icons, the old ones I don't use anymore. As for the rest, well, we'll see.

It's annoying that you can crosspost from DW to LJ but not from LJ to DW. I would have started using DW as a back-up way earlier if this would be possible. But I don't think that LJ is interested in this solution. Would make it even easier for people to leave. XD

I stopped renewing last year because I only used the icons option and finally decided that I could just delete some and save the money. LJ doesn't feel like a service I'm willing to money for anymore.

Yeah, LJ doesn't want to make it too easy for people to go away. I mean, if the service were better, people would not want to leave in the first place, but apparently that's not how it works in LJ-land. I understand that things change really quickly in the IT field and a service like LJ must change and keep up with the latest online developments, but what's missing is not the tech part, it's a good customer service. Especially because Americans are used to having excellent customer service and while LJ has been focussing heavily on its Russian userbase lately, they can't just cut off the rest of the world if they want to survive.

That's what makes me wonder quite often. Do they really have to change? Maybe many people would appreciate careful modernization more than constant adding of new features. I like the idea of keeping services simple better but I'm not everybody. Maybe that's just me being old. XD

It feels more like a Russian service now. When I tried to access LJ last week 9 out of 10 times everything was in Russian. XD
