End of year memes
Dec. 31st, 2012 02:29 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
O hai, Livejournal's back with us. Thank goodness I posted my fanart last night.
Anyway. It's the 31st, aka time for End of the Year memes! 2012 was a strange year: it was a very positive year for the most part, up until June I was looking forward to my Californian adventure, then in June, July and August I lived said adventure, in September/October I had all the wonderful memories from the summer to keep me going and at the end of October I saw Die Ärzte in Germany. But then all hell broke loose at work and the last weeks of the year completely ruined all the previous months. I tried not to think about it too much, but it's clear I need to start looking for another job. I hate job-hunting and the crisis isn't over yet, which means I'll spend the next few months sending my CV everywhere without getting a reply, but I have to start.
Oh, well. On to the memes. And of course I'm using my Cahuenga icon. Quote of the year!
END OF YEAR MEME 2012
What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
A lot of things! I attended a workshop in screenwriting at UCLA, wrote the first act of a script (sadly I haven't finished the whole thing yet), lived in Los Angeles for 2 and 1/2 months, visited San Francisco and San Diego, surfed, ate sushi in a sushi bar with a revolving belt, MET SCOTT CAAN and a lot of cool actors, managed the damn office on my own.
Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I wanted to attend the summer workshop and I did. I wanted to read more and listen to more music and I didn't. I also wanted a sex life, dammit, but that didn't happen either. For next year, I'd like to have more time to draw, get back to reading more and, possibly, find a better job.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
An old colleague.
Did anyone close to you die?
No.
What countries did you visit?
The USA in summer, Germany in autumn.
What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A better paid job, a boyfriend/friend with benefits.
What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The day I arrived at LAX, the evenings I went to the Falcon Theatre to see Scott's play
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Attending the summer workshop at UCLA, MEETING SCOTT CAAN, surfing.
What was your biggest failure?
Not finishing my script.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing serious, soreness all over after my first surf lesson and a cold in autumn.
What was the best thing you bought?
Theatre tickets to see "No way around but through"
Whose behavior merited celebration?
It's going to sound selfish, but I'd say mine.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My boss, some of the parents I deal with at work.
Where did most of your money go?
My California trip.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Seeing "No way around but through" and MEETING SCOTT CAAN (do you see a pattern here?)
What songs will always remind you of 2012?
"16th & Valencia Roxy" by Devendra Banhart, "M83" by Midnight City, "We are young" by Fun.
Compared to this time last year, you are:
i. happier or sadder? About the same. Maybe more worried on the job front
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner
iii. richer or poorer? Richer
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Reading, going to concerts, listening to music.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating, as usual.
How did you spend Christmas / Hanukkah?
I spent Christmas with my parents like I always do.
Did you fall in love in 2012?
No. I had a crush, but that's it.
How many one-night stands?
None.
What was your favorite TV program?
Hawaii Five-0.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, I don't hate anyone.
What was the best book you read?
"Lettere contro la guerra" (Letters against war), Tiziano Terzani
What was your greatest musical discovery?
None, sadly. I didn't listen to music as much as I would have liked.
What did you want and get?
To attend that summer workshop, to see Scott's play and meet him.
What did you want and not get?
A better paid job, a boyfriend.
What was your favorite film of this year?
ParaNorman, Hotel Transylvania, Brave, Mercy
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went to an Easy Cure concert with some friends. After the concert we stayed at the club to dance, then we went outside to my friend's car, ate some cake and white wine and went back to dance.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I hate to be predictable but... sex?
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
It's okay to wear white.
What kept you sane?
Fandom, my California trip.
Which celebrity / public figure did you fancy the most?
Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan.
What political issue stirred you the most?
Ugh, don't get me started on politics.
Who did you miss?
Like last year, my friends. Or rather, the relationship I used to have with some of them.
Who was the best new person you met?
The Boston group! Aka
gyri,
bluedelft and the "invisible sister". Also
risa7, I loved our little chat on the bus after NWABT's closing night. And my workshop coursemate Sue.
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012
Keep trying.
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Ich hatte immer Angst davor
mir selber zu gestehen
dass es nur eine Lösung gibt:
ich muß jetzt endlich gehen
Abschiedslied, Farin Urlaub
(Translation: I've always been afraid
to admit to myself
there's only one solution:
I have to go away)
FANART OVERVIEW 2012
Total number of pieces of fanart:
12
Fandom breakdown:
Hawaii Five-0: 8
Sherlock Holmes: 2 (1 canon, 1 BBC)
Die Ärzte: 1
Original: 1
Overall Thoughts:
I didn't draw much. Partly because I spent more than 2 months away from my tablet in the summer, partly because I was incredibly busy with work in the autumn, so I didn't have much time and energy to draw.
Looking back, did you draw more fanart than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I drew less than last year. I knew I wouldn't be drawing in the summer because of my LA trip, but I wasn't expecting I would be so busy at work. Hopefully it won't be like that next year, for my sanity, at least.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you draw that you would never have predicted in January?
No big surprises, my main fandom is still Hawaii Five-0. The cards I drew for Christmas gave me the chance to draw something Ärzte-related after a long time and some original stuff too (Scarlett O'Hara!)
What's your own favourite piece of fanart of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
I don't know, maybe the set I drew for "Happiness is Homemade" by
delicatale and
sirona_gs for
five0bang, I worked quite a lot on those pictures. I also like "Easter eggs, McGarrett style" and the Steve/Danny kiss I posted yesterday, because it was the first piece of fanart I finished after a long time (not counting the Christmas cards).
Do you have any fanart or prolific goals for the New Year?
The same as last year and the year before: keep drawing.
From my past year of fanart, what was...
My best piece of fanart this year:
I really like the Steve/Danny kiss I posted yesterday
My most popular piece of fanart of this year:
Based on the number of comments it's either Surrender or Serenade
Fanart of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
To be honest, I was hoping I'd get a few more comments on the "Happiness is Homemade" fanart
Most fun piece of fanart to draw:
"Easter eggs, McGarrett style"
Piece of fanart with the single sexiest moment:
I don't draw anything really explicit, but it was probably the make out scene from "Happiness is Homemade"
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" piece of fanart:
That would be the Christmas card for
polarforscherin. In my defense I can only say it was her idea.
Hardest piece of fanart to draw:
The shot in front of the bakery from "Happiness is Homemade"
Biggest Surprise:
The Christmas card I drew for
schwimmerin. I started drawing something else but didn't like the result, so I started over and said "Let's see if I can draw a super deformed Farin..." And it worked!
In conclusion:
I hope I'll have more time to draw next year, it feels so good to look at a finished picture and receive comments on it.

1. Your main fandom of the year: Hawaii Five-0
2. Your favorite Film this year: ParaNorman, Hotel Transylvania, Brave, Mercy
3. Your favorite Book read this year: "Lettere contro la guerra" (Letters against war), Tiziano Terzani
4. Your favorite Album or Song this year: I didn't buy a single CD this year! Not even the new Die Ärzte CD. I'm ashamed. Favourite song is probably "M83" by Midnight City, because it reminds me of Scott's play "No way around but through" and my Californian summer.
5. Your favorite TV Show this year: Hawaii Five-0
6. Your favorite LJ Community this year: I'm not very active in comms at the moment, but I find
hawaii5_o_news very useful
7. Your best new Fandom Discovery of the Year? I don't think I've had fandom discoveries this year. I started watching "Once upon a time", but I didn't really get fannish about it, that is, I just watch the show on TV.
8. Your biggest Fandom Disappointment of the Year? True Blood? I haven't watched the latest season, but I read the 5th book of the series, "Dead as a doornail", and it was so, so awful.
9. Your TV Boyfriend of the year: Steve McGarrett (Hawaii Five-0)
10. Your TV Girlfriend of the year: Catherine Rollins (Hawaii Five-0)
11. Your biggest Squee moment of the year? MEETING SCOTT CAAN IN LA! I'm still ASDFGHJKL when I think about it.
12. Your most Missed Old Fandom? Die Ärzte. I did go to a concert and had a great time, but it doesn't feel like it used to.
13. Your Fandom that you haven't Tried Yet, but want to? I watched a couple of episodes of "White Collar" and "Teen Wolf" when I was in LA and would like to watch the rest, but I really don't have time. If I had Netflix in Italy I would watch way too many series.
14. Your Biggest Anticipations of the New Year? I don't really have anticipations. I look forward to new Hawaii Five-0 episodes, but that's it.
