Apr. 24th, 2003 11:32 amCall me stupid, but I've just recently found out in Italy cigarettes and alcohol cannot be sold to kids under 16. I heard about the cigarettes a few days ago and about alcohol last night, they were talking about it on tv.
Now, I've never seen a warning message, sign or anything, anywhere. Apart from this really posh club in Milan, there was a badge behind the bar stating that they didn't sell alcohol to minors, I guess they thought it was a fashionable idea. In other European countries there are signs saying minors can't buy alcohol and it's a widely known fact. That doesn't stop teens from getting drunk, but that's not the point (I myself had my first Margarita in the USA when I was 15 - and it was quite strong ^_^').
Whenever I find out something like this I wonder how we managed to enter the European Union. Italy's not a nation, it's a farce!
