Back home in grey, rainy Milan. My flight was okay, we left with a 50-minute delay because some paperwork was missing, but I wasn't worried, I had chosen a late connection because I didn't want to rush in Heathrow (had I taken the earlier connection, I would have barely managed to catch it).
During the flight I watched an episode of Hawaii Five-0 (2x01!) and Brave. I loved the film, but I couldn't help analysing its structure as I watched it. This screenwriting workshop ruined me. :P Luckily I was also able to sleep for about 4 hours, so I wasn't completely comatose when we landed.
Hearing the announcements at Heathrow was weird at first, I wasn't used to the British accent anymore; also, after weeks of announcements in Spanish on Metro trains, I could distinctly hear the different accent whenever an announcement in Spanish came up (I guess the Spanish spoken in LA has a strong Mexican influence?)
While I was waiting I had a Frappuccino at Starbucks just because I had some pound coins and didn't want to bring them home. An American would have been really frustrated at how badly organised the whole thing was. A guy behind the counter asked me what I wanted. I told him. Then the cashier asked me again. I told her. Then the girl who was actually making drinks asked me yet again. And when she asked me if I wanted cream and I said "No, thanks", she put cream in my Frappuccino anyway. I mean, I don't really care, but WTH. Also, after weeks of seeing people wait in line pretty much everywhere, coming back to the Land of Anarchy (aka Italy) was quite a shock. And at first I didn't understand why they were checking our documents in Milan, we were arriving from the UK, which is a UE country. No one ever checked my documents upon arrival when I went to Germany (and I flew back and forth quite a few times). But then I remembered the UK is not part of the Schengen Area, so they still check documents even if you're arriving from a UE country. Pff, the Brits.
I also had a fangirly moment while I was waiting for the flight to Milan: Beppe Severgnini, one of my favourite Italian journalists, sat down right in front of me! I was squeeing on the inside. He was also standing next to me while we were waiting for the document check.
At baggage claim I couldn't find my suitcase. But I saw a group of suitcases sort of abandoned in a corner and, sure enough, mine was there. Tsk. At home I checked the weight because I was curious and thank God they didn't check it at LAX, it was 25 Kg and the max weight was 23 Kg. Phew. :P
Also, talking about weight, I lost 4 Kg while I was in the US! \o/ I had noticed I had lost some weight, but 4 Kg!And I did it while still eating the occasional cupcake and cheesecake slice, so I'm very happy. :) Oh, and my last lunch in LA was a Teriyaki Burger at Jerry's Famous Deli and it came with a pineapple slice on top of the meat! Needless to say, I thought of Danny. :D

And talking about Danny, my American cousin was in Italy with his wife and kids in August and of course my mum invited him over for dinner. She then proceeded to show them the picture I took with Scott Caan at the Falcon Theatre (I printed a copy and sent it to her) and apparently they went crazy about it. I mean, they are from Jersey, so Danny must be their TV hero or something. ;)
Oh, well. Back to work tomorrow. But I feel pretty good about it. Now, if the weather wasn't so lousy...

With as close as Los Angeles and California in general, are to Mexico, there's a lot of Mexican influence
I often wonder about how people in New Jersey feel about Danny Williams/Scott Caan.
Hope the weather clears up for you. Maybe send of that rain back to Los Angeles?

Date: 2012-09-03 11:58 pm (UTC)LOL that's funny! Being from NJ myself, I do admit to having a special affinity to Danny because the character is supposed to be from Jersey.
But part of why I'm drawn to Scott, the actor, is: when I learned he was James Caan's son he took on a strange sort of familiarity to me. Because, along with other actors of his generation, James Caan was a household name in my family when I was growing up---due to the fact that the Italian side of my family LOVED The Godfather. I swear I knew all the actors' names before I knew some of my more distant relatives' names; I might even have thought they were relatives I hadn't met yet!
Add that to the fact that James Caan also starred in at least one Western with John Wayne.....well you can just imagine the status he had with my family. LOL
Isn't it interesting how enamored we are--as a culture--with certain actors and the characters and stories they immortalize? That's always fascinated me.

Date: 2012-09-04 02:13 am (UTC)You were here just long enough to get accustomed to the US, weren't you? It's sounds fascinating to me. I'm amazed that you could lose weight while here, but Hooray for you!
That's so exciting that they were crazy about your picture with Scott Caan! When I tell people I met him, they usually say "Who?" which makes me endlessly angry!
