Oh, nice, we had an earthquake last night.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-18135898

The epicentre was less than 200 km from here, I woke up around 4 AM with my bed shaking and the wardrobe shutter banging. At first I thought I had simply woken up from a nightmare, but when I heard the shutter I knew it was an earthquake. I didn't get out of bed because the Milan area is usualy quite safe, we just feel the tremors of the closest earthquakes, but I was still on alert.

Until last year I had never felt an earthquake in my life and then in the last 10 months I've felt three. As long as the Big One doesn't decide to pay a visit to LA while I'm there... >_>

I'm glad to hear that you are okay. The pictures I just saw don't look good. I felt an earthquake once, a very light one, I was in bed as well and it was the most disturbing thing I ever felt.

This earthquake was almost as strong as the one in L'Aquila three years ago. Luckily the dynamics were different, so it wasn't so devastating. But, just like in L'Aquila, the oldest buildings collapsed: there's nothing you can do to save buildings that are 800 years old.

I just seen some footage on the news! :O

You'll be a pro with earthquakes by the time you go to LA ;)

I'll be the Earthquake Queen! :P

No, but really, I think 3 earthquakes is more than enough, thank you very much. >_>

The area where I live is usually considered safe because of the geological structure of the region, but the area hit by this earthquake was considered low-risk too. We tend to forget that Italy as a whole is a seismic zone and no area is 100% safe.
