OK, the first 10 minutes sucked. Really. The pool scene was awful and all those little scenes with potential clients felt rushed and pointless. But then.

Mycroft: "Don't be alarmed, it's to do with sex."
Sherlock: "Sex doesn't alarm me."
Mycroft: "How would you know?"

How would you know?
HOW WOULD YOU KNOW?

DOES THAT MEAN WHAT I THINK IT MEANS. ASDFGHJKL. I can already see the fics flooding the internet.

Other favourite scenes:

Sherlock wearing the deerstalker. OK, it was kinda lame, but it made me laugh.

John: "I was a soldier, I killed people."
Sherlock: "You were a doctor!"
John: "I had bad days."

John: "It's OK, I'm a doctor."

Poor Molly being exposed like that in front of everyone broke my heart. D:

John: "I'm not actually gay."
Irene: "Well, I am."
And Sherlock being right there and hearing it all. It's basically hearing the two people he loves most saying they will never return his feelings. Oh, the angst. The epic angst.

Sherlock turning FIERCE when he understands Mrs Hudson is in danger. And throwing the guy out of the window! XD

And I loved the interaction with Mycroft throughout the episode. But the whole terrorist attack on the plane? And the end? I was rolling my eyes the whole time.

So, yeah, this episode had some good stuff and some frankly awful stuff. But it is a goldmine for fanfic. I can't wait.

The end was soooo ridiculous. I didn't like how Irene Adler's character turned out at the end either. :/

But the episodes had some good parts (you mentioned). :)

The terrorist attack was pretty daft... I had to trawl my mind to go "Oh yeah, Lestrade mentioned something about that in the first five minutes!". But then it disappeared (along with the hope for any suspense or emotion).

There was just... too much stuff crammed into 90 minutes. I still liked it, but, as I said, it seems Moffat is trying too much, like he's competing with Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes and that would be so, so wrong...

I agree that it felt like too much in one episode. I kept thinking "well it will be ending soon" but it just kept going! Maybe the BBC version has become too "self aware"? The first one was a surprise success, but now it's successful it has to deliver.
