Last night there was an explosion at the power station, which is 5 minutes away from were I live. I was watching TV when the sky turned bright orange and I heard a low, deep rumble. At first I thought "Who's the idiot playing with fireworks?" But I quickly realised the light was just too much and it couldn't be fireworks. I went to the window and saw a big column of fire that turned into thick, black smoke. A typical mushroom cloud. I live on the first floor and, even if there are houses between my block of flats and the station, I could still see the tips of the flames.

We still don't know what caused it, nor if there were casualties, hopefully everyone's all right.

Wow, those pictures are intense!

How terribly exciting... Even if it's probably a major inconvenience to people :P

Well, we were actually pretty lucky: we live 5 minutes away from the place but had no black-out (other areas had electricity problems) and the wind blew the smoke in the opposite direction.

It was the sort of scene you usually see in a film...

Lol, yeah when the power station here in the woods across from me blew up a few years ago, we had no electricity for over a week XD It's a good job we have a coal fire!

It looked like a scene from a film, the only difference was that the noise was much deeper and not so loud as the typical explosion scene.

My first thought when I saw the orange sky was "WOW!" And 2 seconds later "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!?" I honestly didn't know if I should be worried or not, I was just... clueless.

It's a strange thing. Something happens and you just stand there and stare at it. I ask myself if I'd be able to decide to run away in the right moment. Or if I'd need someone to yell at me to do so. ;)

Well, my mother told me she felt an earthquake when she was visiting our relatives in Abruzzo a couple of years ago, she said she just couldn't move and my cousin had to drag her out of the house. In such a moment you're just paralised. That's why it's crucial to do fire drills and earthquake drills in school, if those actions become "routine", people will act like that even in a state of panic.

Yes. I read about that some weeks ago. A scientist found out there are two types of human beings during catastrophes. One person is simply paralyzed, the other person is able to do something. Mostly those people are the leaders who are able to rescue themselves and others, because they had trained what to do or were informed about the fire exit or something like that.

The scientist suggested to listen to the flight attendants and read the security advises, never take your shoes off and count the rows to the next exit when you take your seat. So, you'll have a much better chance to survive a plane accident. ;)

She started her study with 9/11 and talked to the survivors. She found out, that those were able to leave the towers who had visited an emergency course or met someone who did that. And men have a better chance to survive on average, because women get troubles with high heels. ;D
