Great, my new mayor is the pig man. The right-wing alliance won and the mayor is the Lega Nord candidate, the very same person who walked all over the place with a pig a few years ago, because doing so the ground would be "contaminated" and Muslims wouldn't be able to build a Mosque in our town.

The list of reasons why I should get the hell out of this place is getting longer...

At least this made me smile. From the "Mail der Woche" on farin-urlaub.de. You can go directly to the last line if you don't feel like reading the whole thing. ;)

Yes, that's what the regions were supposed to be for. -__- But our old politicians would lose a lot of privileges if Italy was turned into a real federal state, so it's just a weird hybrid: the health system is federal, the school system is partly federal, all the rest is managed centrally.

And "Bildungslücke" is a cool word! XD I'm really curious to know what they teach about Italy abroad...

Oh no, we sure can't let those poor, wealthy politicians lose any privileges! That would be disastrous!

It is indeed. I have many. xD
In Germany they teach absolutely nothing about Italy. Except when you pick Latin. Then you get to know some stuff about the Roman Empire, and what difference do those 2000 years make? :/ (Or maybe when you have a History teacher which chooses to teach the Roman stuff instead of the Greek stuff. Which I never had. But I'm very informed about things that happened in Greece. 2000 years ago. Gah. :/)

HAHA, 2000 years old information, very useful. ;)

Well, I guess I learned a lot about Great Britain and Germany because I attended a foreign languages school and beside literature and grammar we learned about British and German society too (the school system, the state form etc.) And of course we learned about Bismarck and the German unification, the Weimar Republic, the Third Reich and the East-West division in History class and about German art in Arts class.

I wish we would have learned something like that as well. In English we did, maybe. But we didn't even really get to know something about other countries in history. For example the only thing I learned about Italy, I found out "accidentally" when studying for my final exam. Something about the "Marcia su Roma", but you bet I had never once heard anything about it. :/ It was always only "Germany, Germany, bla bla". :(

Oh, we studied a lot of foreign history. Maybe because Italy was "colonial territory" for such a long time: first under Spain, then under France, then the Austrian empire... We weren't a "real" nation, so we concentrated on what the important European nations did while we were still struggling to become a state, mostly Great Britain, France and Spain, then, from the XIX century on, Germany too.

I guess abroad they don't teach Italian history because Italy stopped being important after the fall of the Roman Empire (it was all your fault, you barbarians! XD)

Well, the "Marcia su Roma" was important because it was the final step that allowed Mussolini to become what he did, maybe foreigners aren't really interested in it. But I remember we learned a lot of German history to understand how it was possible that Hitler did what he did, starting from the Weimar Republic and World War I.

Germany wasn't a real state either till 1871, but that didn't stop my history teacher going on and on and on about it. :/ But now that I think about it, we did learn quite a lot about France, French Revolution and everything related. And about Great Britain with the Industrial Revolution. I would have liked to learn more about other countries. :/

At least everyone still likes Italy! xD

I don't see why people shouldn't be intrested in it, I think it is interesting.

Well, we studied a lot about Italian history, of course, but my teacher wanted us to understand the "European balance" that involved the most important countries. Italy was always the "little sister" so to speak.

I was such a history geek back then... XD

Being a history geek is a good thing rather than a bad! xD
