I wanted to upload some of the pictures from Berlin and write a proper report during the weekend, but I caught a cold and was quite busy, so I'll just upload the pics now and write the report in list form. This was the first time I used my new camera properly, and most of the pictures turned out awry, over-exposed or just plain wrong. These were the ones that came out decently:

Berlin, 14th-16th March 2009 picture gallery

A few of my favourites:

Saturday 14th March

- I flew in with RyanAir. My flight was full of secondary school students on school trip. Let's just say it wasn't the quietest flight ever. (They even clapped and cheered after the landing, for fuck's sake.)

- I met Maike at the hostel and then went to my friends' place for a "quick" visit. Both on the way to his flat and on the way back, the S-Bahn was crammed full of Hertha BSC supporters. At least they were happy after the match, they had beat Bayer München and reached the top of the Bundesliga after I don't know how many years.

- In the evening we went to the Checkpoint Charlie Museum. I had been there the very first time I was in Berlin on school trip, but I only rememberd a tiny part of it. A bit expensive, but worth visiting. Of course when we got out of the museum it started raining. Luckily the U-Bahn station was just across the street.

Sunday 15th Match

- We went to the Bauhaus museum, which was in the middle of nowhere, and then to the Helmut Newton exhibition at the Photography Museum. Maike was quite tired because she hadn't slept much, so she got back to the hostel to rest a bit and I wandered around Friedrichstrasse. I went to the Admiralpalast to see how distant it was from the U-Bahn station and saw there were already a few fans loitering there, including a certain well-known girl. All that before 5:00 PM. *shakes head*

As for the reading, it was brilliant. Some memories about it:

- We arrived around 7:00 PM after having dinner at a Thai-Nippon restaurant (I had a Farin moment and got udon with vegetables and tofu) and there were about 50 people lining up. People got in line at first, but then they just skipped the queue and, short before the opening, you could only see a formeless blob of people.

- While we were waiting I saw Lula coming out of the side entrance, and Maike pointed out Wayne had just arrived too. After a while Paule arrived too.

- Bela was greeted by loud cheers and he spent some time posing for pictures and showing us his glittering silver (or were they golden?) shoes, which he had bought for a DÄ video, but wasn't allowed to wear. I can easily picture Farin saying "You're NOT going to wear those things in our video!" XD So he decided to wear them at the reading... and then realised he would be sitting down and no one would see them. Poor thing.

- Bela made a few mistakes, mainly forgetting to stop at full stops ("... and blablabla... uhm... Punkt." *headdesk*) and not pronouncing words properly (it took him 3 tries to say "ejakulieren"). But the best slip of the night was how, instead of "Abwechseln", he said "Abwichseln". The whole theatre burst out laughing. XD

- In the second part he showed pictures that illustrated certain scenes from the book. The main character, of course, was played by him ("Steven Stelfox: 27, sehr gutaussehend..."), Paule and Wayne had roles too. When he showed a picture of Wayne, he looked at his laptop and said "Mmh, I know this guy. Pretty..." And blew him a kiss. XD

- Some scenes were really quite disgusting and the audience went "UGH", "OUCH" and "EWW" more than once.

- At the end of the reading he was explaining how he only had time for a 30 minutes Autogrammestunde, and people ran out to get a place, which was really quite rude. So he said "Oh, yeah? Then I'm signing autographs here, close the doors!" Which caused a big round of clapping.

- The foyer were the Autogrammestunde took place was packed and when Bela came out people began pushing and pulling for fear of not getting an autograph. Bela had to stop a couple of times and ask the people there to calm down, otherwise he would just go away.

- One thing I noticed is that he always looked people in the face before signing stuff for them. I mean, it's a small thing, but it was very nice. I felt sorry for him though, especially for all the people who wanted to take pictures, it was like being at the circus.

- Wayne and Lula were there too and, as I have already written in another entry, I said hello and Wayne looked quite surprised to see me there. I got two kissed from him and he introduced me, again, as "the cartoon girl". To which Bela replied "Yes, I know", which was the coolest thing of the whole weekend. :3 After that I lost a bit of lucidity and, instead of getting an autograph on the ticket like I wanted, I got it on the book (I had bought the English version during the break) and wasn't able to say a thing. Oh well, next time.

- After a while, when most peole had gone away, I walked to the front again to say goodbye to Wayne and we somehow ended up trying to communicate through telepathy and invisible Bluetooth. Don't ask. XD

- After that we got back to the hostel on foot, because the U-Bahn was closed, but it was a pleasant 30-minute walk. We got a beer at the lobby (YAY Berliner Kindl!) and tried to not squee too much when we got back into our room.

Monday 16th March

- On our last morning we wandered around Friedrichstrasse and ended up at Alexanderpaltz, where I said goodbye to Maike, who had to take the bus to Tegel. I walked around some more, discovering streets I had never seen in Nikolaiviertel. I remember thinking "WOW, this actually looks like any other German town!" :P Then I walked along Unter den Linden, ate in a lovely bio-bistro, and then went back to the hostel to get my bag before going to Schönefeld. I was actually a bit disappointed to see the EsS-Bahn imbiss was still closed, I wanted to get a currywurst before going back home. =/

- While I was waiting for my flight an Italian girl came up to me and, pointing at my "Kill your friends" book, asked me if I had gone to the reading too, because she had and couldn't believe there was another Italian fan! It turned out she's an Italian student doing her PhD in Berlin, who fell in love with Die Ärzte and went to the FURT concert on last december too. Those three are worse than a drug, you listen to them once and - BHAM! - you're addicted!

I still have to draw a cartoon about the reading, the lovely Maike gave me a brilliant idea, and Wayne suggested I draw something too, so I pretty much have to, don't I?

I also have something else I want to post about, but this entry is long enough. And it's time to go home! Yes!

I'm SO happy you convinced me to go. Well, it didn't take much, did it?

"No, no, I really shouldn't, I... Oh, who cares, I'm going!"
