Dec. 3rd, 2005 11:44 amFunny fact of the day: there's one of my colleagues who can't stand German, so of course I speak to him in German just to spite him (yes, we're as mature as a group of 5-year-old kids :P). Anyway, yesterday, after the umpteenth teasing, he told me "You're a Hun. Or a Longobard." What, not a Goth? Haha. Too bad you can't translate that pun into Italian, it would've been funny.
I didn't point out that Huns came from Asia, from Mongolia I think, and not from northern Europe, but as for the Longobard thing he could be right, because I live near Monza, which was the capital of the Longobard kingdom, hehe. Which reminded me of another thing. The first time I came across the German word "scherzen" (to joke) I was amazed, because it's very similar to the Italian word "scherzare", which has the same meaning. And I wondered if the German word derived from Latin or the Italian word derived from German. Or Indo-Germanic. Or Althochdeutsche. Or whatever. (Man, I should've studied philology, not sociology.) Well, I looked it up and, surprise surprise, it comes from Longobard! The little language geek inside me rejoices. X)
All right, enough nonsense for today. I'll just post the meme that has been all over my flist for the last couple of days.
1) Reply with your name and I'll respond with something random about you.
2) I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3) I'll pick a flavor/color of jello to wrestle with you in.
4) I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
5) I'll tell you my first memory of you.
6) I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7) I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8) If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal.
And I should do a Xmas version of one of my icons. I'm waaaaay to lazy at the moment, though. :P And I'll be out all afternoon and probably all day tomorrow, so I wouldn't have time anyway. But I'm very pleased because I'm almost done with the Xmas "gifts" to send to my flists. Wheee!
EDIT: Did the Christmas icon. Heehee. XD OMG, it's late! *dashes off*
