All right, I finally uploaded the photos I took at Frequency and Gampel.

http://pics.livejournal.com/gothikmaus/gallery/00011645

The ones from Frequency are rather dark, I touched them up a bit with Photoshop, but that's the best I could do. My poor little camera can take great photos with wonderful colours, but it doesn't have much of a zoom.

And here's a little video I took during "Dinge von denen" at Frequency. The audio quality is quite good, but I can obly record up to 1 minute. =/

And some memories about our trip.

Frequency Festival, Salzburgring, Salzburg

14th August:

I got an Interrail pass and left to Munich with Almut on the 14th. Maybe it's just because I'm a foreigner, but I found the driver's strong Bavarian accent quite funny. In Munich we took the train to Salzburg and as soon as we arrived we called an hostel, as we didn't have a place to stay. Luckily they still had 2 beds for that night and the hostel was quite close to the station, so we went. I have to say that's the best hostel I've ever seen, if you ever need a place to stay in Salzburg look for the Yoho. *thumbs up*

We had nothing to do that night and went for a walk, I had been in Salzburg a couple of years ago for the Christmas Market, but I only visited Linzer Gasse and the area around the Dom. We walked around the river and eventually found ourself in the center and in Linzer Gasse, where we ate something and even saw an owl on the roof of a building.
On the way back we got lost and found ourself in the street of our hostel without realising how we had done it.

15th August:

We went back to the station because Almut had to buy her ticket to Gampel and the guy at the info stand had the cutest Austrian accent ever. We wanted to buy a few things we needed for the following day but all the shops were closed. And then I suddenly realised it was the 15th, which is a holiday in Italy and since Austria is a Catholic country (or at least I think it is) it makes sense that it's a holiday there too.

Around midday we got to the festival area, which is pretty much on top of a mountain. We spent the afternoon looking at the various stands and watching The Ark and The Dandy Warhols. I had yummy chinese noodles with vegetables and got a mild sunburn. In the evening we saw a bit of The Eagles of Death Metal and left around 10 PM, as Tool had cancelled their show.
On the way back to the bus stop we got lost. As usual.

16th August:

We decided we didn't want to fight to get to the first row, since Die Ärzte would play at 00:30, so we took our time, we arrived at the gates quite early but we didn't rush inside when they opened. Half of the main area was closed because the techs were still fixing the cables and when the finally finished... we found ourself in the first row in front of Farin's mic. That's fate.

I spent most of the afternoon sitting and chatting with a drunk Austrian boy who was shocked to find out I'm Italian.

Bloke: "Are you American? No no, not American. English?"
Me: "No"
Bloke: "French? Swedish? Dutch?"
Me: "No, a bit more from the South."
Bloke: "South America?"
Me: "No!"
Bloke: "Africa?"
Me: "No! Still in Europe!"
Bloke: "Europe? Portugal? Spain?"
Me: "You're almost there"
Bloke: "Italy? No, not Italy."
Me: "Yes, I'm Italian."
Bloke: "But you can't be Italian! You speak English!"
Me: "Ehm..."
Bloke: "Are your parents diplomats?"

That was one of the funniest conversations I've ever had. He kept saying sorry for no reason and was SO drunk.

Bloke: "Sorry, I'm drunk."
Me: "But it's only 4 PM."
Bloke: "I started drinking at 10 this morning."
Me: "O-kaaay..."

I only remember the last 3 concerts of the day, that is the Beatsteaks, Nine Inch Nails and Die Ärzte. I had listened to the Beatsteaks quite a lot in the car during Bela's tour, I knew some of their songs and enjoyed their show. The it was Nine Inch Nails' turn but it was clear that most of the audience was there for the Beatsteaks and especially for Die Ärzte. At one point Trent asked: "Do you even know who we are? Let me guess, we were booked between 2 German bands and you couldn't care less about us." Poor Trent. :( I had been looking forward to their show, but I was too tired to really enjoy it. At the end they even cut the encore and just went away.

Of course when Die Ärzte got on stage I forgot all about being tired and started singing and clapping again. Farin said something about the craziness of playing in the middle of the night and, well, they played until almost 3 AM, which really IS crazy. And they managed to talk about Bela's miraculous vomit for about half an hour. I love this band.

After the concert we found out they had signed autographs that afternoon and were a bit disappointed, Almut had asked T. about it and he said "Nooo, they're not going to sign autographs today." Thank you, T. =/ We tiredly made our way to the bus stop, only to find out the last bus had gone hours before and the next one was at 7 AM. But we had to take the train to Gampel around that time and panicked a bit. Luckily we could share a taxi with 2 other people, so we got to the hostel, took a warm shower, had no sleep whatsoever, packed up our stuff and went to the station.

The things we do for this band.

Open Air Gampel, Gampel

17th August:

The journey from Salzburg to Gampel was ridiculously long, we had to get to Zürich, then to Brig, then to Gampel (let me remind you that Gampel is less than 3 hours from where I live, oh, the irony...) In Zürich all the clichés about Swiss trains being always on time were destroyed, our train was first delayed because of technical reasons and then called off, so we had to wait for the next one that would leave an hour later. In Brig we left our bags at the station and took the train to Gampel and from there a bus to the festival area. Of course we had to pay for the bus, tzk Switzerland. We arrived in front of the main stage around 6 PM... and there was still room in the first row! We took our place in front of Rod and waited. I really enjoyed Gogol Bordello, but wasn't very impressed by the other bands.
When Die Ärzte started playing I thought I was going to die: everyone started pushing and there weren't barricades to separate the main area from the rest, so we were constantly being pressed agaist the barricades in front of us. I was afraid they would break and I would fall down and be crushed to death like in that Liverpool-Juventus football match in Holland years ago, but luckily nothing tragic happened, some people asked the security guys to help them out and after the first 3 or 4 songs the pushing diminished.

Farin kept talking in Swiss German all through the concert, which was only 90 minutes, that is, about half of a normal DÄ gig. They almost forgot to dress up for Dinge von denen, so they rushed out and came back with the cardinal and nun costumes. I loved how Bela kept playing with his costume as if it was a superhero cap. And, as I already said in my previous post, during "1/2 Lovesong" Farin tried to escape from my camera and gave me one of his big grins.

At one point I thought Bela looked in our direction and recognised us, but it was probably all in my head. Almut managed to get a drumstick though, Bela threw it in our direction but it fell on the ground, luckily one of the security guy gave it to her. After the concert I got Rod's setlist and decided to celebrate with an overexpensive sangria.

After that we took the bus back to Brig, spent the night at the station and took the first train to Basel around 6 AM, then the one to Hannover and finally to Berlin.

And that's it. I still have some pictures from Berlin and Hamburg to post, but there's time for that. Hope you didn't die from boredom while reading!

Argh, it's late! I have a dinner with the rest of the band tonight, maybe we'll finally find a new name?

Sounds sososososo awesomely perfect! :D Man, I have to see them live.

And I just watched the video of you as Bela's Traumfrau on your MySpace and ha! it's fantastic! :D

How are you, by the way? :) We didn't have the opportunity to chat very much recently!

It was exhausting but definitely worth it! I hope you can see them live too. :)

Aah, I was so embarrassed when I was on stage, I didn't know where to look!

Well, I'm not often online these days, or better, I am online but for short amounts of time. Maybe I'll be online longer next week in the afternoon from the uni lab. I miss our silly chats. ^_^
