You're a wonderful person, I'm really happy I got to know you. :D
And now a more detailed entry about the Rock im Park weekend. It'll probably get quite long, feel free to skip.
I went to Nürnberg with our keyboardist and his girlfriend, I slept at their place and we left on Friday morning at 6:15 am. According to ViaMichelin it should have taken us almost 7 hours to get there. It took us 10 HOURS. The weather was awful, it rained most of the time and you couldn't see a thing. And when we finally got to Nürnberg we took the wrong exit and got lost in the city, wasted a good half hour driving around the centre and then found a parking place in front of our hotel by sheer luck. The hotel was great by the way, camping would've been fun, but not when it rains for two days straight.
Anyway, when we got to the concert area Velvet Revolver were playing, and the place wasn't so crowded yet. But by the time Korn came out on stage the place was packed and everyone was jumping and pogoing around. I tried to push my way forward before the DÄ gig started but it was getting so crowded I was afraid I would pass out (I'd only had a sandwich for lunch, skipped dinner and had nothing left to drink), so I found a spot from where I could see something and waited. Even if I was tired and was beginning to wonder if it had been worth it, when Die Ärzte got on stage and started playing, I forgot everything.
Random thoughts about the show.
The outfits: I was surprised when I saw Bela wearing a suit, but even more so when I saw Farin wearing one as well, I'm just so used to seeing him wearing that damn T-shirt of his. They were so cute wearing the same thing, all three of them. ^_^
Crazy fan: a girl managed to get on stage (O_O) only to be dragged away by a security guy. At the end of the song Farin looked backstage, said "Hey, ganz ruhig" and smiled. I found that really sweet.
Bela's guitar solo: Farin said Bela was his favourite guitarist and asked him if he wanted to play a solo.
Farin: "Willste?"
Bela: "Soll ick?"
Farin: Haste bock?"
Bela: *shrugs* "OK"
So Bela played Farin's guitar and Farin went at the drums. :D
Dinge von denen: Rod said "Let's see what those two will come up with tonight." Well, they managed to crack him up coming out on stage dressed as a Cardinal (Farin) and a nun (Bela). I was laughing so hard and so did the rest of the audience. And there was a slashy moment as well, when Bela asked Farin if they had time for a "kleines Fickchen." XD Besides, they played "Dinge von denen" in the second encore, some people had already gone away, so I could go a few meters forward and the place wasn't so crowded anymore.
In the end they had to leave because it was too late and couldn't play "Zu spät", so we sang it while they were leaving the stage.
After the concert I met up with Almut, who had been in the front row all the time (respect!) and gave her the birthday card. Coincidentally Rod was wearing a white shirt and black tie during the gig as well. ^_^ She gave me 3 DVDs full of Ärzte stuff and I'm still grinning because of that. So much stuff! Danke! :D
By the time my friends and I got back to the hotel we were dead tired, but I was still ecstatic and it took me a while to fall asleep.
On Saturday morning we walked around the centre of Nürnberg, ate something in a small restaurant and went to the concert area again.
The German football team was playing that evening, and guess where? Yes, in Nürnberg. And the stadium was right next to the concert area. You can imagine how crowded the trains were. My friend was curious to know who the opponent team was, so I walked up to a man who was waiting for the train with his wife and kids and asked him "Entschuldigung, eine blöde Frage: gegen welche Nation spielt Deutschland?" He looked at me funny and said "San Marino." I almost laughed in his face. For those who don't know, San Marino is a tiny nation (more like a city) within Italian territory. Talk about coincidences.
Anyway, we got to the festival area and finally got out wrist bands. Yes, we got the wrist bands on the second day, there was no one at the stand when we arrived the first day and no one checked us, so we got in without them. We could have gone in for free! Oh, well.
We were there mainly to see Muse that day and it was a great show, I had seen them live years ago, but I liked this concert much more. After that we saw a bit of My Chemical Romance, went back to see Linking Park and then then beginning of the White Stripes gig.
The breakfast room was so crowded the next morning, full of people going to Rock im Park and football fans, it was insane. Unfortunately we couldn't stay for the last concerts, as my friend's girlfriend had a very important meeting at work on Monday morning, so we went for another walk around Nürnberg and left in the afternoon. I would've liked to see The Smashing Pumpkins but, hey, you can't have everything. And I saw Die Ärzte, that's the important thing. :D
I also made an effort and spoke German the whole weekend: at the hotel, in restaurants, at the ice cream shop. But I got shy and talked in English with Almut. =/ I get all nervous when I have to speak German with someone I know, I'm afraid I'll make some stupid mistake and just speak English. Sorry.
Damn, this has got ridiculously long. Sorry, but I wanted to write down everything before I forgot. And I forgot the pictures at home, I'm an idiot.
Anyway, it's Bela's turn now, with his concerts in August. Die Ärzte will be touring in November/December and I'd LOVE to see a few gigs, but I can't buy tickets yet, I still don't know anything about my internship, which is supposed to start around October. There shouldn't be problems if I take a couple of days off saying I have an engagement I can't put off (hey, it's worked before), but you never know. I think I'll just buy the ticket for Berlin and hope the other shows won't sell out too quickly. =/
And now I'll just shut up and go to class.
