Friday 10th November: we arrived at Düsseldorf airport around 11 AM, wasted about 15 minutes trying to understand which train we had to take to go to the Haputbahnhof and finally reached the city. Our hotel was quite close to the station and we reached it quite easily, even though when we asked a guy where the street was, he was like "Nooo, you're totally wrong! The street you're looking for isn't here." Tsk.
We put down our stuff and went back to the station, ate a yummy falafel and went to the Altstadt by tram. We had a walk along the Rhein and wandered through the streets, found some very cool shops that sold Ärzte stuff and punk/goth clothes and I bought a super cool shirt:

I also got the Edelweißpiraten DVD, which I hadn't found in Berlin. After sunset we ran into a parade, with children holding paper lamps, people wearing medieval costumes riding horses and a band playing. We had dinner in a very nice Indian restaurant and then went to drink something in an Irish pub, where I had cider. Oh cider, how much I love thee...
Saturday 11th November: We went to the opening of the Carnival celebrations and found ourselves surrounded by football supporters. Düsseldorf supporters, of course, but there were also a lot of supporters of the other team, which happened to be... St. Pauli from Hamburg! And I was wearing my St. Pauli sweatshirt. ^_^ Everyone was already drinking beer at 11 in the morning, of course.
In the afternoon we took the wrong underground, wasted a lot of time and finally arrived at the Philipshalle, where I burst out laughing seeing how bloody crowded it was. I've already talked about the amazing concert in this entry, so I'll just skip to the next day.
Sunday 12th November:

After that Stefano and I went to see a Caravaggio exhibition, ate something, walked around some more and ended the day in front of some Dutch fries. That looked somewhat Caravaggiesque...
Monday 13th November: CD hunting! We went to a Saturn shop we had seen the day before, because Stefano wanted to buy "Am Ende der Sonne". We saw that the "Bäst of" was at number 3 of the charts and he decided to buy that too, to have an idea of what Die Ärzte sound like. I got "Sie hat was vermisst", "Planet Punk" and "Le Frisur". I already have copies of those 2 albums, but they got ruined and since they were on special price, I bought them.
In the afternoon we went to our favourite bar, Woyton, talked about English grammar and played Magic for some time before going back to the hotel, getting our stuff and going to the airport.
On the plane we took a lot of silly pictures, I wonder what the other people thought of us. I was supposed to go play that night, but I'd already told the guys I wasn't sure I could make it and in the end I didn't go.
And that's it. I'll end with the phrase that was our leit-motiv for those four days: MASSIMO RISPETTO! :D

Date: 2006-11-19 06:24 pm (UTC)Cider is (so far) the only alcoholic drink I can tolerate in any reasonable quantity (meaning more than a few sips).

Date: 2006-11-19 08:03 pm (UTC)Cider is one of my favourite drinks and when I saw "Strongbow" on the list I knew what I was going to get. I'm slowly getting used to beer as well, but in most cases I still don't like the taste very much.

Date: 2006-11-19 09:26 pm (UTC)Awesomeness! The shirt is very nice, but you already know it! Pity I haven't found on my way such a shop, I'd have bought something Ärztish or punkish to wear proudly in France and Belgium!
Did you already watch the Edelweisspiraten DVD? And how was the exhibition, BTW?
Yay for CD hunting! And who cares about the people in the plane? As long as you had fun, it doesn't matter :)
