I had planned to do a few things during the weekend, including catching up with the Snowflake Challenge, but I ended up not being home on Saturday and Sunday. Luckily I was home today and did manage to be somewhat productive. I'll keep the Snowflake Challenge entries short, but I want to write them down.

Day 13
In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I must admit I don't have clear goals, but I'd like to write a sequel to "Of torches and graveyards", or at least start, and draw some fanart. I'd also LOVE to visit Japan, but that would require a lot of planning, which I can't do right now. Hopefully soon, though.
Day 14
In your own space, talk about what you think the future holds for fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
The future of fandom is somewhat nebulous. But I tend not to think about the future too much, so I really have no idea. When I first stumbled upon fandom, almost twenty (TWENTY!) years ago, I had no idea I would still be here reading, writing and drawing after all this time. In a new fandom, yes, and I've changed a few over the years, but it seems like once you're in fandom, you're always in fandom. So I think fandom will always be there. In different places and different forms, but always there.
Day 15
Talk about why you participated in Snowflake &/or what you got out of it. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I participated for the first time last year: I needed motivation (and a little nudge) to go back to writing and it worked, so I decided to do it again this year. It's fun and not "stressful" like a traditional writing challenge is, with not set deadlines and broad topics. I skipped a few entries, but I may go back and try to finish them later this year.

once you're in fandom, you're always in fandom
Date: 2019-01-22 03:09 am (UTC)It's a hard habit to break! :-)
I agree that the nature of fandom will always be there. For me, only the tech is the question. We can stream video and download things in a heartbeat. When I was new to online fandom, people were exchanging .wav files, tiny audio clips of sounds from a show, just a wee snippet of dialogue or a sound effect. Way back in the day, a friend emailed me a dozen .wav files in one email and it locked up my computer so I couldn't do anything else until it was done. I went and took a shower and when I was done showering, the download still hadn't finished. I can't imagine what we'll be able to do twenty years from now.

I like this sentiment. And it does feel that way. I've gone through a bunch of 'main' fandoms, too, and while the fandom changes, the fact that you're ~in fandom doesn't.
I'm glad you think Snowflake is fun. *g*
