I wonder about that phrase, sounds uncommon for me.

It's sad, especially if that's a job you really wanted to do. Maybe it's the way you present yourself in an interview? Too shy or too calm?

I wasn't even called for an interview, I just replied to their announce. I guess they preferred a German, it's understandable...

Hmm, sometimes they just want to chose someone they already know, but they have to make an announce nevertheless, because of business philosophy. At my last job, things like that happened more than one time. There was a job offer in the newspaper and everyone already knew who'll get it.
