Life in the country
Jun. 19th, 2012 04:07 pmThere are two black cats wandering about the garden of the building where I work. When I went out for lunch break I saw one of them staring intently at something on the ground a few feet away. It turned out that "something" was a little bird. It was still alive and there was no way I could leave it there to become cat food (in the meantime the other cat had arrived too). I had no idea what to do with it, at first I thought of bringing it home with me, but then I thought the mother might still be around. I asked a man living there if he knew of a safe place where I could put it, but he said the only safe place would be inside a flat. He wanted to help me, but he had a cat too, so he couldn't take it. I put it under a tree and gave it a bit of water, but it didn't react much. So I put it on a branch and hoped the cats wouldn't find it. When I went back after lunch it was still there, so I called my father and asked him to come pick it up, because it was clear the mother wouldn't come back.
I have no idea what kind of bird it is, it's about as big as a sparrow but it's obviously not an adult bird, judging from its beak it looks like some kind of bird of prey. Hopefully it'll be able to fly away in a few days, otherwise we'll call bird protection and give it to them.
