gothikmaus: (Glomp!)
I'm still alive! Yes! *collective flist hug* How are you all? I ended up staying in Abruzzo 2 days longer than I had planned and came back on Thursday night. Here's a short summary of my trip, pictures will come later.

DAY 1

9:30 AM - My parents try to drive me to the station, but after 5 minutes we're stuck in the Traffic Jam of Doom®. We realise we will never make it in time by car, so we just go to the underground station and take the green line. The train leaves in time and arrives in Pescara with only a 10-minute delay, which in almost a miracle considering Italian trains are always late.

Best part of the journey: looking out of the window and seeing the sea.

DAY 2

Rain. There isn't much to do with this weather, so I decide to be productive for once and study a bit for my music exam. That, and I draw cobwebs and a dragon for my cousin's 5-year-old son.

DAY 3

I was supposed to go to Rome today, but guess what, it's still raining. In the afternoon it stops raining and I go out with my aunt, who makes me drive my uncle's car. Living on the plain, I had forgotten how difficult it is to start a car on a uphill road. Damn. My aunt insist on getting me something for my birthday and we end up buying a thumb ring, as I stupidly lost the one I used to wear.

Funny fact of the day: the lamb-shaped cake almost exploding in the oven. I swear I had nothing to do with it, I was still drawing cobwebs when it happened. :P

DAY 4

A sunny morning at last. I go for a walk and take some pictures along the way. In the afternoon one of my cousins takes me to Pescara and we have a walk on the beach.

DAY 5

Sun again. I explore a random field, knee-deep in the grass, and find myself on top of a hill facing a glacier. In the afternoon we're off to Pescara again. I could get used to having the sea just 20 minutes away from home.

DAY 6

Easter lunch with a dozen relatives. I can't remember the last time I've eaten so much chocolate. In the afternoon I sneak online for a bit and send Easter wishes to my friends. And go egg-hunting on bademeister.com. ^_^

DAY 7

Two more excursions today, to a small park in the morning and to a hermitage in the afternoon. The different shades of green on the hills are amazing. In the evening we have a barbecue. It feels like I've eaten more meat in the last 7 days than in the last 7 months.

DAY 8

Rome! I take the 7:00 AM train and for the first half hour of the journey a creepy old man keeps staring at me. Then a middle aged man tells me about his youth in Rome and a Nigerian guy asks me if I'm Italian, saying I don't look Italian at all. And then he tells me he "would like to know me better". Why me?

Anyway. My original idea was to visit St. Peter's basilica, but the queue to enter is so long it goes all the way round the square, it would take at least 3 hours to get in. It's already 11:30, so I decide to visit other monuments instead.

At the end of the day I'm dead tired, but it was worth it: I visited Castel Santangelo, the Pantheon (where a group of German students commented on my Ärzte Statt Böller T-shirt), Trevi's fountain, l'Altare della Patria, the forum and the Colosseum. All on foot. Not bad for my first time in Rome I'd say.

DAY 9

I don't have anything planned for today, so I just go buy the train ticket to go home the next day. Apparently everyone is going to Milan on the same day and there are no more tickets left for the faster trains. On the way back I buy a nice yellow (YELLOW???) top with little white and brown skulls on it.

DAY 10

We go to the local market and I buy a long sleeved T-shirt with a purple skulls and stars print, while my aunt gets me a lovely bag, black with white stars.

The train leaves on time (WOW) and stops in all the most popular holiday-towns of the Adriatic coast. Luckily I have some comics and my MP3 player. "Bingo" has officially become my personal "on the road" album. Too bad I didn't have "Endlich Urlaub", it would've been great listening to it while watching the sea on such a nice sunny day.

Well, that's it. Gotta get ready for tonight, we're having an okonomiyaki night at Ste's place. I've missed you. *HUGS*
