Bela tour report and pictures!
Aug. 30th, 2007 09:55 pmI've finally uploaded some pictures from Bela's minitour, I had to go to the library in a town nearby because the internet connection at the local library didn't work and it would take me ages to upload them from home. I'll post the pictures from Frequency and Gampel in a few days.

A short illustrated summary of Bela B. y Los Helmstedt Am Livesten 2007:
6th August, Potsdam

The hightlight of the show for me was, of course, being chosen as Traumfrau by Wayne, I still grin like an idiot whenever I think about it. Meeting
black_plec after the concert was also nice, Almut and I had noticed her Bela/Farin T-shirt while we where waiting outside the venue and wondered whether she was in
deine_schuld as well.
I quite liked the support band, Thee Flanders, a rockabilly band with zombie make-up who even played a version of "Erna P." that became "Bela B." Funny quote by the singer "This guy here *points at the blond guitarist* is not Farin Urlaub." XD
They didn't sign autographs afterwards but the band eventually showed up and I managed to thank a very drunk-looking Wayne and take a picture with Olsen. That man can make the weirdest faces.
8th August, Mannheim

I met up with Almut, Anna and Lisa around 9 AM in Berlin, we got out rental car and drove off towards Mannheim. I drove until Frankfurt and I have to admit driving on the Autobahn wasn't so bad. I still have to grasp the concept of "no speed limit" though.
The venue wasn't very full, there was no one behind me for the whole show or at least it felt that way. The support act was a weird French (or at least French-speaking) disco band, Mini Moustache, whose lyrics showed a mild obsession with baguette and cheese.
They signed autographs this time and I could give Bela my little present, an illustration book about vampires. They put on some background music while we were waiting and when "Stand by me" started Bela asked everyone to sing along. When it was my turn he said "Alex!" with a big smile and hugged me. I was very surprised he could still remember my name after 2 days. ;) Wayne was there too, looking quite drunk (again.) After I gave Bela the book, he took my wrist and moved my arm so Wayne could sign it, as he was signing everyone's hands and arms that night.
Bela signed a postcard for me and wrote "Por Alex" on it. Maybe next time I'll teach him the difference between Spanish and Italian. ^_^ Before we went away Danny showed up and randomly gave Almut a signed avocado. XD Oh, those guys...
9th August, Jena

After looking for a parking place for an hour, we finally managed to reach the entrance. The weather wasn't that great, with grey clouds looming above, and when Wayne came out to greet the girls who were sitting in front of us, he said we should make a fire. Nice idea, but I don't think the security guys would like it. It got better in the afternoon and eventually the sun came out. The girl sitting next to me heard me speak English and was very surprised to find an Italian fan.
The gates opened half an hour earlier than usual and when Bela came out to introduce Lula and her band we were a bit taken aback, it wasn't even 7 PM. But apparently things had to be over by 10 PM, so everything was a bit rushed. And because of this we couldn't see Wayne's amazing skills as Glockenspiel player, I'm really disappointed. :P
The concert was great as usual, but just as Lula came out to sing Leave with Bela, it started raining. Or better pouring. Wayne kept looking at the sky and trying to get wet. Luckily the concert was almost over and we only had to stand 30 minutes in the rain. Autograph signing was called off because of the weather, so we just made our way to the car and headed south.
10th August, Taubertal Festival, Rothenburg ob der Tauber

The festival could be summed up in one word: MUD! The closest parking place was already full when we arrived, so we had to go to the one in the mountain, which was completely muddy, cars had to be dragged around by tractors. And there were only 2 of them. Of course we got ourselves in the wrong parking place and had to waste an hour before we could finally make our way down to the festival area. Someone bought rubber boots and I got a pair too. Size 46, but hey, better than wet feet!
The day dragged along quite slowly, it rained most of the time and I wasn't really interested in the bands. But when Bela started playing it miraculously stopped raining and I forgot everything else.
Back in the parking place, we found out the car was stuck in the mud, we managed to drive out only with the help of the other front row girls and a couple of the security guys. Now I can even say "second gear" with a Bavarian accent. :P We needed petrol, we had seen a petrol station in town and thought we could get there without problems. Wrong. Cars were still lining up to enter the parking and camping place (I'd like to see how they could put up a tent in the mud at 1 AM) and we wasted a lot of time there, plus the road to Rothenburg was closed and we had to take another route, which was longer and quite confusing and we didn't know if we would make it or if we would run out of petrol in the middle of nowhere. We eventually called the assistance, which took only 2 HOURS to bring us some petrol and the guy didn't even know the way back to Rothenburg. Luckily a driver took pity on us and told us to just follow him. It was almost dawn when we stopped in a parking place along the Autobahn to get a bit of sleep.
11th August, Open-Flair Festival, Eschwege

The weather was much better, the festival had already started when we arrived but we got to the front row without problems, as there were 2 stages and people were coming and going from one to the other to watch all the bands. At one point in the afternoon I saw a man wearing a cowboy hat approaching with a sort of John Wayne walk. It turned out it was Olsen who came to greet the front row girls. Olsen, you big poser, you. XD
The setlist was a bit shorter and I didn't really want to leave when it was over, so we went back to see a bit of the Sportfreunde Stiller concert, but I was very tired, 4 days of touring were starting to take their toll. I still had enough energy to comment on their World Championship song though. "Wir werden Weltmeister sein"? I don't think so. *MWHAHAHA*
And then it was really over and we tiredly made our way back towards Berlin. We arrived to Alexanderplatz in the early afternoon the next day and it looked like it was November, it was cool and foggy and you couldn't even see the upper half of the Fernsehturm. We said goodbye to Anna and Lisa and drove off to Almut's flat.
I have to admit I've never enjoyed driving so much as I did this summer. And our poor car, I miss it. It took us a while to get it clean, it looked like we had run the Paris-Dakar with it. XD
And now I'm thinking of going to the last show in Munich too. I've already checked trains and I could even get a ticket for 29 euros, but I need to clear up a couple of university and job-related things before. And I still don't know how to get tickets, the festival is free but you need to get tickets in some Vodafone shop in Munich. Damn, I'm addicted.

Date: 2007-08-31 01:12 pm (UTC)At first I thought you were talking about the guy who helped us pushing the car out of the mud, that's where the quote comes from. It all sounds much funnier now that it's over, doesn't it? X)
