FUCK

I knew today's job interview would be completely useless, but they're the only ones who called me for something that isn't SAP-related, so I went. All right, they did call me because they were looking for a SAP specialist (and it turned out it's for the same society where I'm currently working as a consultant - D'OH), but when I told them I'm looking for something else, they said they're looking for a marketing/communication specialist as well, so I decided to give it a go.

Well, besides telling me I don't have enough experience in the field (I already knew that, thank you very much. But I'll never have experience if no one lets me work), the guy I spoke to pretty much told me I've waited to much and it's too late to change job.

What the bloody fuck. I got a degree at 23 1/2, I started working (as in, a real job, in an office and everything) at 24, I got this job at 24 1/2, I got fed up a couple of years later and attended a Master's, now I'm 28 and I'm screwed?

Well, FUCK YOU. You and that son of a bitch of my professor who decided to send that bitch to that music promotion agency where I really wanted to go, without an apparent reason. Three people wanted to go there and he chose her just because. And of course while she was there, one of the assistants of the boss resigned, so they kept her after her internship was over.

It could've been me. It SHOULD have been me. And last time I met her, she even complained because she was "forced" to go to concerts she didn't like, because the bands were too "mainstream".

FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU.

EDIT And of course my story isn't even among the twenty stories that will be published. Why the fuck do I even bother?

That is such bullshit.

I hate how every fucking job requires prior experience (even if it's entry-level) and there's no real way to get that. It's so easy to get pigeon-holed if you stay in one job for any length of time.

I just hope things get better after the holidays... =/

UggGGhhh >_< That is fucking terrible! I have never heard of somebody being told it was too late especially before they're even 30!?? What the Christ.

I offer you one million hugs. x_X

I was so upset yesterday when he told me that. My parents and friends keep telling me to take it easy and not worry, because I already have a job, so I can look for something else with no hurry, it's not like I desperately need the money. And then that arsehole tells me I've already waited too long and I won't find anything, so I'd better stick to what I have and shut the fuck up.

He was probably just trying to convince me to go work for them, but man, this is such a crappy period for me and that little speech was like a punch in the gut. =/

That is seriously fucked! *duh*

So what would really be your 'dream job' so to speak? Maybe if you'd study something related to what you'd really like to do.. (I'm trying to get into that 'business' myself so I know that's insanely hard :( )

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really have a "dream job" (besides becoming a writer, but that's bloody difficult), and that's probably one of the main problems. I studied Sociology with a specialisation in Mass Media and a degree thesis on music and I did a Master's in event management last year. That's something I'd really like to do: organising concerts, shows, plays. I worked in the communication and marketing office of the biggest theatre in Milan, but it was just an internship and no one seems to need personnel at the moment. I wanted to do an internship in a music promotion agency during the Master's, but my professor decided to send someone else. And now that person is still working there because she was in the right place at the right time, while I had to go back to my old dull, frustrating job.

I'd also like to teach Italian abroad, but you apparently need a degree in Italian literature to do that. I'm really starting to lose hope...

Did you try to get such an internship yourself (even that is freakin difficult, I know) or you could take some economics courses (they're quite fond of that I've heard). Have you considered studying event management (or something related to it)? With your education I guess you could pull it through faster.

Did they tell you what else they required during/after those job interviews (though that's usually just excuses anyway). Someone once rejected me because I didn't have any experience in working with a certain software (how stupid is that?!)

Especially in this business there are many 'career changers' so you shouldn't lose hope =)

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I tried. I contacted every single music promotion agency in Milan (and there are quite a few), music labels and radio stations as well, but no one replied. NO ONE. I'm also replying to a lot of different job offers, but just a couple of people contacted me, and only to tell me they had already found someone else.

The Master's I did last year was on event management, we studied theatre and music history, copyright laws, marketing and communication, economics. But more than that you need practical experience. It's a vicious circle, really: employers ignore you if you don't have experience, but how can you get experience if no one lets you work? ARGH.

I'll just have to go on being a SAP consultant, even if it makes me SICK. :(

[identity profile] eryka-59.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Crap. I don't know what was his aim when telling you that shit, but it's never too late. Don't give up - just let yourself and the companies you're applying to some time. It takes time to get replies, but you might just receive some when you don't expect them anymore.

I really, sincerely hope you'll find some job that you'll enjoy! *hugs you*

Yeah, I know it takes time, but it feels like, the longer I wait, the less chances I have to change field. I'm starting to feel trapped... =/
