Big Wednesday

I survived my first surf lesson! \o/ Of course my performance wasn't that great but hey, it was my first time ever on a surfboard, I wasn't expecting to ride waves like a pro. And I had fun, which is the important thing.

Aaand I went to the arcade on the Santa Monica Pier afterwards and look:



Yep, #1 at Street Fighter! I'm so old school. I also treated myself to a delicious red velvet cream cheese cupcake at Yummy Cupcakes before heading home, which was a smart move, because I was so tired that I just took a shower and went to bed skipping dinner. Today I'm sore all over, my arms hurt, my abs hurt, my butt hurts. And I have a bruise on my hip. But now I know where Scott got his shoulders: my deltoids and rotator cuffs have never hurt so much, which means I used them a lot yesterday, and if Scott has surfed on a regular or semi-regular basis since he was a teen, well...

Surfing sounds awesome! It's really popular here; I've told myself I will have a go one day... But the sea is so very very cold XD I'm sure it can't compare to the balmy waters where you are.

To tell the truth the water is quite cold here! I mean, I'm sure in Scotland it's freezing, but here we had to wear a wetsuit. The times I went swimming it took me a while to warm up and since a big part of surfing consists of waiting for the wave, it would be way too cold without a wetsuit.

Some of the sea around Scotland is actually quite nice and warm :) I went swimming in the sea on the west coast last year with no wet or dry suit on and after a minute I got used to it and my mum learned to swim in the sea as a kid, but it's different water up here and it's freezing D: Then again, we have no sun most of the year!

Lol, all those pictures I've seen of guys surfing wearing nothing but terrible Hawaiian shorts have been a lie... XD

Well, I've seen pictures of people surfing in just shorts or a bikini, but I guess that's in Hawaii or Australia. Here pretty much every surfer I've seen so far was wearing a wetsuit. Sorry to break your dream. ;)

I was at the Santa Monica Pier when I was there in July! It was pretty, but cool even then. I would never be brave enough to surf. No way! I bet you are sore, though, because I've heard that surfing uses every muscle.

Oh, yeah, I'm sore everywhere! Well, my legs don't really hurt because I've been walking around a lot and I didn't stand up that much, but everything else hurts. But it's still not as bad as I was feeling the day after my first competitive volleyball training in high school, I could barely walk!
