I have no words

Great, my new mayor is the pig man. The right-wing alliance won and the mayor is the Lega Nord candidate, the very same person who walked all over the place with a pig a few years ago, because doing so the ground would be "contaminated" and Muslims wouldn't be able to build a Mosque in our town.

The list of reasons why I should get the hell out of this place is getting longer...

At least this made me smile. From the "Mail der Woche" on farin-urlaub.de. You can go directly to the last line if you don't feel like reading the whole thing. ;)

They want to be independent because the Nortern regions are richer than the Southern ones and their politicians say we should stop giving them our money. It's true that in the South politicians and institutions in general waste a lot of money and there's a lot of corruption (but we have corrupted people in the North too), but secession isn't the solution.

Aww, thank you, I'll keep the secret. ;)

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
And once again I feel reminded of Bavaria... Have they stopped wanting to become independent now?

If I only knew the answer... ;)

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Some days they want, some days they don't. You want to become a federal state? Perfect! Use a foreign country as example (Germany, Switzerland, the USA) and just DO IT, dammit. We already have regions, it shouldn't be so difficult to form a federal state. The truth is, they simply use the secession argument to threaten their Government allies. *sigh*

Oh, but we all know the answer to that question... ;)

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
... Bildungslücke! (Whatever this is in English, the dictionary tells me it's "gap in education", but I don't really trust it...) Till now I didn't even know Italy wasn't a federal state. I thoight that's what the regions were for...

*snickers*

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's what the regions were supposed to be for. -__- But our old politicians would lose a lot of privileges if Italy was turned into a real federal state, so it's just a weird hybrid: the health system is federal, the school system is partly federal, all the rest is managed centrally.

And "Bildungslücke" is a cool word! XD I'm really curious to know what they teach about Italy abroad...

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, we sure can't let those poor, wealthy politicians lose any privileges! That would be disastrous!

It is indeed. I have many. xD
In Germany they teach absolutely nothing about Italy. Except when you pick Latin. Then you get to know some stuff about the Roman Empire, and what difference do those 2000 years make? :/ (Or maybe when you have a History teacher which chooses to teach the Roman stuff instead of the Greek stuff. Which I never had. But I'm very informed about things that happened in Greece. 2000 years ago. Gah. :/)

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHA, 2000 years old information, very useful. ;)

Well, I guess I learned a lot about Great Britain and Germany because I attended a foreign languages school and beside literature and grammar we learned about British and German society too (the school system, the state form etc.) And of course we learned about Bismarck and the German unification, the Weimar Republic, the Third Reich and the East-West division in History class and about German art in Arts class.

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish we would have learned something like that as well. In English we did, maybe. But we didn't even really get to know something about other countries in history. For example the only thing I learned about Italy, I found out "accidentally" when studying for my final exam. Something about the "Marcia su Roma", but you bet I had never once heard anything about it. :/ It was always only "Germany, Germany, bla bla". :(

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, we studied a lot of foreign history. Maybe because Italy was "colonial territory" for such a long time: first under Spain, then under France, then the Austrian empire... We weren't a "real" nation, so we concentrated on what the important European nations did while we were still struggling to become a state, mostly Great Britain, France and Spain, then, from the XIX century on, Germany too.

I guess abroad they don't teach Italian history because Italy stopped being important after the fall of the Roman Empire (it was all your fault, you barbarians! XD)

Well, the "Marcia su Roma" was important because it was the final step that allowed Mussolini to become what he did, maybe foreigners aren't really interested in it. But I remember we learned a lot of German history to understand how it was possible that Hitler did what he did, starting from the Weimar Republic and World War I.

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Germany wasn't a real state either till 1871, but that didn't stop my history teacher going on and on and on about it. :/ But now that I think about it, we did learn quite a lot about France, French Revolution and everything related. And about Great Britain with the Industrial Revolution. I would have liked to learn more about other countries. :/

At least everyone still likes Italy! xD

I don't see why people shouldn't be intrested in it, I think it is interesting.

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we studied a lot about Italian history, of course, but my teacher wanted us to understand the "European balance" that involved the most important countries. Italy was always the "little sister" so to speak.

I was such a history geek back then... XD

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Being a history geek is a good thing rather than a bad! xD

[identity profile] polarforscherin.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe, the Bayernpartei was one of the first organisations which congratulated to the independent Kosovo because they hope for support in their own independence. :D

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
They're so strange. When I first saw ofe of those election campaign spots, I thought it was a parody!

[identity profile] polarforscherin.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's impossible for me to imagine they really mean it seriously. A real tragedy. :D

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I just don't want to imagine it. But what if others do and vote for them and they win? (I'm good at worst case scenarios.)

[identity profile] polarforscherin.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, that would be funny. Then they could cooperate with "Die Partei" and part Germany again and found West Germany, East Germany and Peoples Republic of Bavaria. XD

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
And everyone would be happy! Not!
Maybe they only have such weird opinions cause they don't wanna get votes?

[identity profile] polarforscherin.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
We could found a party too. Our interests would be Slash and an answer to the question mentioned above. XD

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to support this party too! XD

[identity profile] polarforscherin.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Juhu :)))

Two members in only a few minutes. That sounds like a track record! :D

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that would be principles! Who needs world peace when a question like that is unanswered?! xD

[identity profile] polarforscherin.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, three members now. That brings us close to world domination. And every politician has to admit that our programme isn't worse than their's. XD

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet if you would ask around, it'd be five members at least! xD
At least we have an uncomplicated one! xD

[identity profile] polarforscherin.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
We should search for a Spitzenkandidatin to send her to the talk shows. :D

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
We should indeed! Any suggestions? :)

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You want to see a poster that looks like a parody?

http://polipetto.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/esterne071438430703143856_big.jpg

It says: "They couldn't stop immigration and now they live on reservations. Think about it!"

Sickening.

[identity profile] polarforscherin.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a joke, isn't it? O_O

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
No, sadly it's not a joke. D:

The Democratic Party used the same poster to make fun of them though, because they're letting the Malpensa airport slowly die now that the "new" (HAHA) Alitalia moved a lot of flights from Milano-Malpensa to Rome. They used the same picture and wrote something like "They didn't have airports... now we don't have either." At least that's a parody...

[identity profile] polarforscherin.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG :(

I couldn't believe it when I read how succesful Berlusconi and his coalition were again. We have strange politicians here too. But not that strange.

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't believe it either. D:

[identity profile] polarforscherin.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's weird. He has a lot of media power, but is it enough to fool everybody? Or were the others voters just fed up with the alternatives and stayed at home?

The voter participation was terrible in my city, only 35% and that was even 3% more than the last European election! :(
The people don't seem to care, it's almost 75% participation on Bundestagswahl.

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
And they still get votes? What?!

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Not only they get votes, they get A LOT of votes. They're the third biggest party in Italy, after PDL (Berlusconi's party) and the Democratic Party. :( Only the central and northern regions support them, which means a lot of people vote for them there...

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand it and I don't want to either. I just... why? The longer I think about it, the more confusing it gets...
But maybe now I begin to understand why Italian politics get frowned upon here. D:

[identity profile] gothikmaus.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
And maybe you can understand why I don't like saying I'm Italian when I'm abroad... =/

My only consolation is that people usually react saying "Really? Are you making fun of me? I'd never thought you're Italian..."

[identity profile] urania-chan.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I wouldn't have thought that people don't like Italians (apart from that it's incredibly stupid to judge people according to their home country which I can't even begin to understand). It's only that for some reason Italy only ever makes the news it's something dumb the politicians have done.
But I usually don't tell people I'm from Germany either. :/

Really? And wouldn't they?
