Future? What future?

I've just been told the 30th of April will be my last day here.

On the one hand I'm thinking: "WTF, they're supposed to tell us 20 days before! I asked about it a couple of weeks ago and was told I was going to work here till the end of June! How is one supposed to make plans if they don't know where they'll be working in TWO WEEKS?!"

But on the other hand I'm going: "YEEESSS! One more week and I'll be out of this place!" *dances*

It means the crisis really is serious, though. Or, as we suspect, simply that the guy who brought me here messed up, so they're getting rid of all the consultants he brought along. I'm one of the last to go.

Wow! That's... Sudden!

Yeah, that's one of the (many) things I hate about this job: you can't even plan things 3 months in the future because you don't know where you'll be in three weeks!

Most jobs are like that, unless you're working for yourself or you're pretty high up in a company. I've had jobs where I've not known what I was doing the next week, since they couldn't be bothered making proper rotas.

At least you're getting out there :)

Well, my job is like this because I'm an consultant, so my boss sends him here and there. In "normal" jobs (which are becoming very rare) you work in the same place until you want to go away or until your place goes bankrupt.

But even when you're still working there, you have no idea what your hours are. On the Monday you can go "Ah, great! I have Wednesday off!" and then by Tuesday evening, the boss has inked a shift in for your for the next day so there goes your plans.

That happens here too, but only if you work in retail. I work in an office, so I work every week from Monday to Friday.
