gothikmaus: (Simon Gallup is my hero)
Highlight of the week: yesterday and today I went to a recording studio to take pictures and videos of some friends who are recording an album. The quality is probably gonna be pretty low (I'd never taken "professional" videos before), but they just needed some material to put together a short teaser clip and some making-of photos.

I miss taking pics at concerts. I miss concerts in general.

At least it was a nice change from all the recent job-related stress.
gothikmaus: (Simon Gallup is my hero)
I saw an amazing (and free!) photo exhibition today, "Who Shot Rock & Roll" at the Annenberg Space for Photography. It was a collection of live, backstage, candid and studio pictures by various photographers portraying a lot of different artists, from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, to Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Blondie, The Sex Pistols, Patti Smith and a ton of others.

When I saw the posters last week I immediately knew I had to see it. Rock photography is my not so secret passion: whenever I can, I go see my friends' band and take pictures of them, I've become their official live photographer. Of course I'm not a professional at all, but I love doing it. And one of my pictures actually got published on the official program of the Sziget Festival in Budapest! You can see some of my photos here, the one that got published it's one of them in the shopping trolley.

One of the things that struck a chord was one of the photographers saying "Being a photographer is like having a passport into people's lives", and that's so true. Also, I was surprised to find out there are quite a few women in the business.

And while we're talking about my friends and their band ("Deluded by Lesbians"), I found two silly little behind-the-scenes videos of one of their concerts, with English subtitles! In the first one you even see a bit of Milan, if you're interested.

gothikmaus: (Sherlock Holmes)
Still toying around with my graphic tablet and trying to find my own way to draw Holmes. I guess I should just doodle and sketch until I find it. In the meantime, here's how I spent the afternoon so far.

Follow the cut )

I just wanted to draw him with bed hair. :P Also: folds will be the death of me.

The photo contest we've been organising for the last months opened yesterday. I spent almost the whole day setting up the exhibition with two friends of mine and was dead tired when I got home, but it was worth it, it looks really good. There are a few photos I can't stand, I hope people won't vote for them...

:O

Sooo, I've already mentioned that my friends won a contest and are going to play at the Sziget Festival in Budapest, right? Well, the news got published on the Rolling Stone website (Italian edition) with a short text and a photo. And guess who took that photo? *big Farin grin*

http://www.rollingstonemagazine.it/notizie/sziget-sound-fest-2010-incono-i-deluded-by-lesbians

Too bad they didn't credit me, but I checked other articles and there are no photo credits anywhere. Whatever, one of my pics is on the Rolling Stone website! :D
gothikmaus: (Wayne/Olsen - Das muss Liebe sein)
Had a great night at Wayne's gig yesterday. The concert was at Magnet Club, which is going to move from Prenzlberg to Kreuzberg in a couple of weeks. I had already been there to see The Crash in summer 2004 (my GOD, that's almost 6 years ago :O ) and in my mind it was bigger. Oh, well. Duncan Townsend, the opening act, was hilarious. He kept making jokes in German (see Wayne? Brits can speak German if they try) and the audience loved him.

As for Wayne's concert, I can confirm what [livejournal.com profile] flaschengeist already said: that bloke makes the weirdest faces when he sings. He kept saying they were in a hurry as a punk band was supposed to play after them and made random jokes about Achim (who totally is Rod's secret son, come on) being like a flower: he looks nice, smells nice, but no one knows why he's there. Poor thing. Later, after the umpteenth joke, he said "OK, maybe I went too far? Aww, come here." And hugged him. But, as they were both quite sweaty, they both made disgusted faces. XD

The girl playing in the film "Die Tür" was also there and Wayne called her on stage. He started talking in English to her, but she couldn't understand him, so he knelt down and spoke German. See Wayne, that wasn't too difficult, was it? There was also this inside joke of Wayne greeting the keyboards before playing ("Hello, piano") and a few others I can't remember.

During the encore Lula sang "Smashup", which is a song I actually quite like, probably because she sings it a couple of octaves lower than her usual. :P She said she was "total erkältet" and looked... quite drunk, honestly. I don't know if that was just a stage act, as she looked absolutely normal after the concert.

Afterwards I could only talk very briefly to him, as people kept calling him and he constantly had to go and greet people here and there, but at the end I managed to get an autograph for a friend of mine who couldn't make it to the gig. He asked me if it was one of my musician friends and I said that yes, that was him; I told him they won a contest and are about to shoot a video and he asked me to send him the link when it's done.

After that I hung about for a bit, but the punk band that was supposed to play at 11 was taking its sweet time (I left after midnight and they hadn't started yet) and I didn't really like the music they played in the "Rockbar" part of the club, but maybe it was simply too early and that was just warm-up music; the bar was full of teenagers anyway, so I left.

On the way home I got an SMS from my friend, who was all excited about his authographed CD and I just had to grin when I read it. A random guy walked by just then and said "Nice smile!" Er. Thanks? XD

Now I'm going to finish touching up my friends' photos so I can finally send them. The poor guys have been waiting for them for two weeks now. Also, I finally put some of my pics online, they're here if you're interested:

I remembered three four more funny moments from the concert in Montreux:

1) Bela jumping down from his drumkit, running to Farin, drinking his tea, thanking him and running back to his place. :D

2) Farin singing "Mana mana" with the audience. XD

3) Nico and someone from the crew doing a little dance at the side of the stage during a song. XD

4) Farin talking about fans who throw bras on stage (Bela had just got a bra and a pair of knickers and asked the girl who had thrown them to please join them on stage) and saying "Yeah, nowadays it's just 'Oh, I'm going to throw my bra on stage!'" and mimicked getting something out of his pocket and throwing it. Poor Farin, he misses the good old days when girls threw the bras they were actually wearing... :P

Man, I still grin like an idiot when I think back of the concert. Speaking of concerts, Deluded by Lesbians are playing in Milan tonight, hopefully I'll be able to take decent photos this time, the ones I took at their last concert came out way too dark. But they're going to play outdoors before 9:00 PM, so that shouldn't be a problem. It's good to have musicians friends I can use as my photographic guinea pigs. And they absolutely LOVE my photos, so... ;)

:)

gothikmaus: (YAY!)
My friends liked the photos I took at their latest concert! :D You can see them here:

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=331481277&albumId=1218525

Unfortunately, uploading them to MySpace ruined the quality a bit, the originals look much better. But I'm very happy, that was the first time I used my reflex camera to take concert pictures and the results were better than I expected. :D

Eeeh!

So, about my cryptic (and locked) entry from last night:

No, I'm not working on stuff for Bela or Wayne like someone suggested. XD

I'll write all about it when things are done, for the moment I've been asked to "keep it secret". Also, we're trying to organise a concert for the 24th of April! Keep your fingers crossed for me, please!

And the photos I took of my friends are online!

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=331481277&albumId=1173782

I took the ones with the orange background and the ones with the blue light. What do you think? Remember that was my very first "photo shoot" (and I didn't have a tripod), so don't be too harsh... ^_^'

They also made an animated banner using two photos I took that night, you can see it at the top of their MySpace page:

And: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, I HOPE THAT EMAIL FROM THE FANCLUB IS NOT AN APRIL FOOL!
gothikmaus: (Olsen - Yeah baby)
Lo and behold the new Los Helmstedt comic!

http://www.doitcomics.net/loshelmstedt/bbylh020.html

A big thank you to Maike for the idea, I changed the dialogues a bit but I hope you like it.

Yesterday I was in a horrible mood (why, yes, I got yet another negative reply, this time from a place in Potsdam), but last night things got much better. I went to the happy hour organised by our candidate's support group and took some photos; after a while my musician friends arrived and I introduced them to the people in charge of organising concerts, hopefully they'll have a chance to play before the summer. After that we went to do some shopping for dinner and ended up doing and impromptu photo-session in the car park of the shopping centre! I took a lot of photos and some came out really nice, I'll let you know when they publish them on their MySpace.

Why can't I do something I like for a living? Or at least something I don't find totally disgusting? *pouts*
gothikmaus: (D'oh!)
Am I the only one who thinks of "Alice in Wonderland" looking at this photo?

Guess where I found it? Yep, on http://www.konstanze-habermann.de (under "01 Mode", page 24).

I am not surprised, not one bit... *shakes head*

EDIT: Should I mention she took the pictures for the "Kill your friends" audiobook booklet too?

Clickity click )

I prefer the cards picture, though.
gothikmaus: (Berlin)
Leaving for Berlin tomorrow! I'm so excited I'm feeling all queasy! I'm going to bring along my new reflex camera and make a lot of pictures! The photography course started last night and I already learned some technical stuff about exposure time and diaphragm opening that I'm going to use. The teacher is very nice and professional and told us to show him our pictures, even the ones who didn't come out well, especially those, so he can explain what we did wrong and we can learn from our mistakes. I'm very happy I decided to buy that camera and attend this course. :)

My Berliner friends are back from Australia and I'm going to meet them tomorrow afternoon. I can only stay at their place for a few hours though, because they're still quite jet-lagged (they came back yesterday). And I don't want to abandon Maike for too long. :P

Also, think of me on Tuesday morning! I can't give away too much, but... Think of meee! >_< Things can't always go wrong, dammit!

And let's not forget Sunday night. Let's not forget him:

>:D )

*fangirl overload*

PS OMG look at the bouncy kitty!

Great. I checked the website of the photography club in Monza last week, and they still listed the courses from last September-December. I thought "Well, maybe the next courses will start in March and they still haven't updated the page." I checked again yesterday and it said "Enrolments for the February-May session are closed". I wrote an email to have more info and was told all the places were gone within a couple of days, I should've subscribed to their newsletter to have "insider info", aka know when enrolments opened so I could rush to them and save myself a place.

What the fuck? Is that the fucking DÄOF? There are other courses in other places, but this was the closest to where I live and the cheapest, all the other courses cost twice as much.

Whatever. I'm really in a crappy mood today.

Pfff

Aw, man. I sent in a picture for this photography contest:

http://radioeins.voting.funtip.de/index.action

Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't find the list of submitted pictures? The voting page just loads a random picture every time you vote or refresh the page and, judging from the rankings, there are about 600 photos? Argh.

Oh, well. If you happen to see my pic and want to vote for it, you'll make me very happy. And if you tell me the picture id and/or URL, you'll make me even happier. :)

Damn, I've still got "Atem" stuck in my head. Damn you, Farin, why do you have to write such beautiful Ohrwürmer.
gothikmaus: (D'oh!)
I'm such a ridiculous, hopeless little goth. I went for a walk last Saturday, and after buying contact lenses, I went to a shopping centre and got myself two purple shirts. When I saw the first one, I thought "WOW, that's lovely!", I picked it up and saw they had it in black as well, and I just had to grab that one too. I tried on the purple one first and thought it looked very nice, then I tried the black one and was like "OMG YES BLACK!" But the purple one was NICER, damnit, so I forced myself to buy that one. And then I got a purple hoodie with an '80s black print, I also tried on a bright pink version of it, but, as much as I liked it (I was all but squeeing), I realised I would get fed up with it pretty quicky, so I got the purple one.

I'm totally unable to wear "normal colours". *sigh*

Here are the shirts, if anyone's interested.

Pretty in purple )

Also, I found the best photo ever on http://www.olafheine.com.

Slightly NOT WORK SAFE )

Genius, pure genius.

And while we're talking about pictures, I found an amazing set of live DÄ pics on Flickr:

http://flickr.com/photos/venturemedia/sets/72157605458266367/

Here's an example. AWW. *dies of cute*

And a random pic of Farin. Isn't he the most adorable thing you've ever seen? >_<
