Did you try to get such an internship yourself (even that is freakin difficult, I know) or you could take some economics courses (they're quite fond of that I've heard). Have you considered studying event management (or something related to it)? With your education I guess you could pull it through faster.
Did they tell you what else they required during/after those job interviews (though that's usually just excuses anyway). Someone once rejected me because I didn't have any experience in working with a certain software (how stupid is that?!)
Especially in this business there are many 'career changers' so you shouldn't lose hope =)
