I celebrated my birthday with my friends last night. It was actually a double party, as one of my best friends' birthday is in a couple of days, so we did a "combined celebration" at a Mexican restaurant.

The food was delicious and I got A TON of presents. Also, my friends know me SO well. XD

This week has been very intense. We were really busy at work and then yesterday and today I played tourist guide for [livejournal.com profile] schwimmerin, who spent the weekend here. I wanted to show her everything and we ended up walking for miles. Oops.

Yesterday I showed her the "local attractions" in my hometown, that is the country villa of the count who built the first hot-air balloon in Italy in 1784 (and who took off in said balloon from his garden) and the small church standing next to the villa. The church was originally in Switzerland, but the count liked it, bought it, had it dismantled, shipped, delivered and built again next to his villa on the other side on the Alps. I mean, who hasn't done something like that at least once in their life? XD So, I showed her those two things and our main church.

After lunch we went to Milan, where we saw all the classic sights and we wasted too much time trying to find Roman ruins. I'd read about this archeological route online and thought it would be interesting but, man, some of those ruins were difficult to find. Also, most of them were only parts of buildings and quite hidden, so it took us a while to spot them, it felt like being on a scavenger hunt. The funniest part of the afternoon was looking for the Roman theatre: it was supposed to be somewhere around Piazza Affari, where the Italian stock exchange is, but we couldn't find it anywhere. And then she saw a sign and we found out the ruins of the theatre are actually under the stock exchange building! Talk about underground theatre. XD Also, if you've never been to Piazza Affari, this is the sculpture standing in front of the stock exchange building:

Milano, Piazza Affari )

We are so hardcore. XD

In the evening we had an aperitivo along the Navigli, Milan's canals, which is a typical Milan experience in the summer. Luckily it had been raining on and off for the whole day, so we weren't eaten alive by mosquitos (which is usually also part of the experience).

Today we went to Bergamo, where we visited the upper part of town (Città Alta), saw a lot of beautiful churches and bought cute little polenta-shaped mini-cakes. In the afternoon we drove to Monza, where I showed her the historical centre and more churches. She must be so fed up with churches after this weekend. Sorry. XD

And now I'm going to bed because I'm exhausted. Goodnight!

I'm too old to come back home at 5 AM. But last night was V's hen night (or hen party or bachelorette party or whatever you call it) and some celebrating was in order. Her fiancé was in London with his friend to celebrate, we didn't have much time to organise, so we decided to do a surprise party at her place. She was supposed to have dinner with her maid of honour (well, our equivalent of the maid of honour, we don't have bridesmaids in Italy), we all met and waited until she was inside, then rang the bell and screamed "Surprise!" when she opened the door.

It was a funny night: we dressed her up in a wedding dress made of toilet paper, made her sew a sock and had a little quiz to see how well she knows her future husband. Of course for each wrong answer she had to drink a glass of wine. It was a simple, laid back thing, but we all had fun.

I'm still half-asleep, but this H50 pic put a smile of my face:

Oh man, my friends really did surprise me last night. We went to see Easy Cure live and then stayed at the same club because it's one of the few places in Milan that we actually like. After the gig we went outside for a bit and I thought they just wanted to give me my present. Well, it turned out they had a cake in the trunk of P's car! I felt a little bit like Steve in the latest H50 episode and I guess I must've had the same expression too. :3

They got me some really cool presents: this watch, an Asimov book, mascara and shoe laces (pink with black music notes and grey with little black skulls).

The concert was great, Easy Cure are really, really good. We chatted a bit with the singer later on, we had already met him a few times (D. and I even went to London to see one of their gigs a few years ago) and he used to work with my friend V, so it was like a reunion.

But now I'm dead, I'm not used to going to bed at 4:30 AM anymore!

PS Just found this on tumblr. Spot-on, I'd say:

Christmas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, FLIST!

First of all: OHMYGOD my friend S. got me a smartphone for Christmas! :O Sure, she works for Samsung so she must have got it for half the price or something, but still. A f*cking smartphone. I was shocked when I saw it. And I feel like Danny Williams with his goofy thumbs: I like keyboards, all right? I find touch-screens... intimidating. And I'm always afraid of breaking things, so I'm handling it as if it were made of glass. It'll take me a while to get used to it.

My parents got me an adorable hat they bought in Paris (it's got a tartan pattern in black, grey, blue and white), new pyjamas (again a tartan pattern, but in pink, purple and grey) and a bottle of Baileys, plus a couple of little things I needed. So, yeah, I'm not complaining at all.

Also, I realised I haven't posted the last Christmas cards yet, so here are the ones I sent to [livejournal.com profile] angrylogic and [livejournal.com profile] kiviraat:

I don't know if the last person already got her card, so I won't post it.

I'm going to the cinema to see "Puss in boots" tonight. It's weird going to the cinema today, it means someone is working on Christmas Day and that's... not fair? I don't know, I'm weird like that.

And yesterday I found out, totally by chance as usual, that Italian TV is airing Sherlock. I remember watching a little bit of it online earlier this year and being outraged because the dubbing was so bad. Well, not the dubbing per se, but they chose actors whose voices were so different from the original ones that I couldn't listen to them. And there were also some translation issues, so I gave up pretty quickly. I don't know, maybe I could give it a another try, they're showing it on Thursday night and I don't have to go to the gym for the next two Thursdays...

Anyway, I hope you're all having a fantastic Christmas! :)

Just a quick post before I go out for the last round of Christmas shopping.

[livejournal.com profile] urania_chan and [livejournal.com profile] schwimmerin got their Christmas cards! \o/ I should really stop complaining about the Italian posts: the card I sent to Germany only took 2 days to arrive and the ones I sent to Norway and the USA only 4 days. Only 2 more cards are still on their way, one to the USA and the other to Scotland (it's technically 2 cards to Scotland, but they're travelling in the same envelope).

Anyway, here are the drawings I did for [livejournal.com profile] urania_chan and [livejournal.com profile] schwimmerin.

Right, I'm off. Hopefully I won't get crushed by the crowd of Christmas shoppers...

[livejournal.com profile] polarforscherin, I got your card yesterday. It seems the German postal service isn't so bad after all, it only took 3 days to get here. Mine was faster, though. ;)

Anyway, thank you, both for the card and for the ficlet, it made me grin like an idiot. :)

Is LJ finally back? Is it? *prods gingerly*

For those who might be interested but didn't see the original post the other day, here's my latest piece of H50 fanart:

Good morning, sunshine

And now it's finally official: I'm going to the USA next week! This is one of the most random and last-minute decisions I've ever made, but I really didn't want to be stuck here the whole month doing nothing, it usually ends in constant fighting with my mother, so I thought I'd better put an ocean between us. ;)

I'll be staying at my aunt's in the NJ/NYC area and I'm planning to go visit [livejournal.com profile] schwimmerin for a weekend (we'll watch Fright Night together, YAY), I can't wait! :D I just hope everything goes well with my flights and my luggage doesn't get lost, this will be the second time I fly to the US, last time (16 years ago OMG) I took a non-stop flight, but this time I'm stopping in Munich (and in Frankfurt on the way back), because Lufthansa had the cheapest fares. I still don't like the idea of having my fingerprints taken at customs, but there's nothing I can do about that, is there? Also, dear USA, try not to default while I'm there, OK? Thank you.

tl;dr: I'm going to New Jersey. On holiday. Danno would be proud of me. XD

:D :D :D

Message to [livejournal.com profile] angrylogic and [livejournal.com profile] kiviraat:

OMG!!! THANK YOU THANK THANK YOU!!!

I'm in such a fangirly mood right now, I really wasn't expecting it. :3 It was the best reward I could get after spending the morning scrubbing the windows clean. XD

Also, the Sherlock Holmes business card is genius. <3

(And, for some reason, my father was very curious, he was all like "You got a parcel from Scotland! It's not everyday you get post from Scotland!" ^_^)

THANK YOUUU!!! <333

[livejournal.com profile] schwimmerin! [livejournal.com profile] flaschengeist! I got your cards today! :D

Jenny: your card is adorable, both the illustration and what you wrote, I had a :3 face the whole time I was reading it. <3

Maike: the card is hilarious! Poor Santa, is he allowed to bring liquids on board? XD And the fic was fantastic, especially Lestrade's comment at the end. XD

To anyone who asked for a Christmas card: please let me know when you get yours, so I know it didn't get lost.

I've had a hell of a cough for the last 3 days, I can barely talk. But there's some good news too: today I was told that, starting from January, I'll get paid for my articles! It's just a small reimbursement, but it's still better than nothing at all.

In other news:

Photoshop crashed (twice!) while I was trying to save the pic after resizing it. Photoshop must be a filthy communist...

At last!

The last Christmas cards are done and will be sent out tomorrow! \o/ The ones going to Germany should arrive before Christmas and I hope the one going to the USA will be there by the end of the year. I had a lot of fun making these cards, I hope the receivers will like them. :3

This is priceless. Next Saturday my friend V. will celebrate her birthday and, since our birthdays are so close, she had asked me to make a double party. I never actually replied, because I didn't really feel like celebrating in a restaurant getting stuffed with food (which is basically what's going to happen, she's already sent us the menu of the place she chose and, man, so much food), so the official version is, we're going to celebrate only her birthday.

Well, today she sent a roundmail asking a friend of mine (whom V. doesn't know) whether she wants to come too, because they're organising a little surprise for me, but sssh, I'm not supposed to know anything.

Too bad I was in CC too. This is so hilarious, she had the same thing last year with her boyfriend's birthday. When I pointed out that, uhm, maybe I wasn't supposed to get that message? she just wrote: "I wanna die."

Ah, my friends. XD

Off to watch True Blood and then bed, I'll have to get up early to go to Frankfurt tomorrow. Bela and Wayne on my birthday, what more could I ask for? An actual DÄ gig maybe, but I won't be too greedy. ;)

Thank you, thank you, thank you [livejournal.com profile] einheitstochter! It's adorable. I called it Penelope and I love it. <333

Also, these oranges made my day.

I could go to bed right now, I'm always tired these days. And last night I couldn't sleep at all, I kept tossing and turning and when it was time to get up, I felt like a zombie. D: Hopefully I'll get some rest tonight...

Coming back home at 5:00 AM after a night spent playing board games and smoking a hookah with friends is not a bad way to start a new year. By the way, we played "males vs females" and the female team crushed the male team. Oh, yeah.

Quote of the night (we were talking about music):

"Gli anni 2000 hanno prodotto solo feccia. A parte Farin."

Translation: "The last decade only produced scum. Apart from Farin."

And no, it wasn't me who said it, it was my friend S. ;)

Mmh...

My friends are currently at D's degree party (yeah, she got her degree 9 months ago, she took her time organising the party. :P) I miss them a lot. But I don't want to get all angsty (again).

Did I mention I ended up buying tickets for Bela's second gig in Hamburg and the one in Leipzig a few days ago? It was actually pretty funny, I asked the guy at the ticket counter if they had tickets for those shows and he said "What, not for Berlin?" (There was a poster of the Bela concert in Berlin hanging on the wall right next to him.) I said "No, I already have one for that." Anyway, I bought the tickets and he said "So, Bela B in Hamburg on the 7th and in Leipzig on the 8th. And then Berlin on the 9th. You're going on tour." Damn straight, I am! XD And he didn't even know I'm gonna be in Hamburg on the 6th too. ;)

I haven't updated in ages, sorry about that. We had a double birthday + goodbye party on Wednesday, but not everyone could come because it was in the middle of the week, so I'm meeting up with the rest of my friends tomorrow. I should be all excited and bouncy at the thought of going to Berlin (OMG only 4 days left!), but I'm strangely calm.

Here have a meme.
